North Carolina Legislature Overrides Vetoes , to Enact Laws Against Trans Youth.
On Aug. 16, the North Carolina General Assembly overrode three of Gov. Roy Cooper's vetoes to enact HB 574, HB 808 and SB 49, Fox News reports. .
HB 574, or the Fairness in Women's Sports
Act, bans transgender girls and women
from participating in women's sports in
middle school, high school and college. .
HB 808 prohibits medical professionals from providing gender-affirming care to anyone under 18.
It is the 22nd state to do so. .
SB 49, or the Parents Bill of Rights,
mandates that teachers inform parents if their children are questioning their gender or identifying with different pronouns. .
All three of the laws
were immediately enacted. .
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association, which previously instituted a policy to include transgender athletes on sports teams, .
will be required to revoke their guidelines
and comply with the new law. .
While the new laws were praised by many, others view the legislation as discriminatory and cruel. .
