"“Thanks for the ride, mate”, said the Land Module of Chandrayaan-3 mission to the mothership. The Land Module successfully separated from the Propulsion Module, which is its mothership. The lander is called ‘Vikram Lander’.The Chandrayaan-3 mission's lander is named after Vikram Sarabhai (1919–1971), who is widely regarded as the father of the Indian space programme.

The land module is set to descend to a slightly lower orbit upon a deboosting which is planned for tomorrow around 4 pm.

Meanwhile, the propulsion module will remain in space, and continue its journey in the current orbit for months or years. It would perform study of the earth’s atmosphere and would measure the variation in polarization from the clouds on earth

Chandrayaan -3 is India’s third lunar mission. The first mission was back in 2008, the second mission in 2019 which later failed after Chandrayaan-2 lost its communication with ISRO. The Chandrayaan-3 mission was launched on July 14 via the GSLV Mark 3 heavy-lift launch vehicle from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota.

The objectives of this lunar mission are safe and soft landing, rover roving on the moon’s surface and scientific experiments. The spacecraft is now scheduled to land on the moon surface on August 23. If India successfully lands Chandrayaan-3 on the moon's surface, it will become the first country to land on the south pole of the moon.

But, just to let you know, Russia is too in this race with India. Russia’s Luna-25 which was launched a few days back is too on its way to the moon's south pole. Russia claims that its Luna-25 would land on the moon by August 21st, which is just two days before Chandrayaan-3’s landing date.
