00:00 The Department of the Interior and Local Government or DILG is urging the cities of Makati and Taguig
00:06 to coordinate and begin the transition over its boundary dispute.
00:10 Interior Secretary Benjar Abolos says the two city governments should prioritize the welfare of affected residents,
00:17 particularly teachers and students, as classes are set to begin soon.
00:22 The issue here is that number one, people should continue to receive services. They should not be affected.
00:32 About 30,000 elementary and high school students in 14 schools are affected by the situation.
00:38 We are saddened because I think we were not able to pay for supplies.
00:42 They should prioritize PWDs, students, scholarships, solo parents and parents with special children.
00:52 Classes will start in two weeks. But according to Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano,
00:57 no proper turnover has been done to prepare the affected schools.
01:01 The transition team of the City of Taguig is ready but they are still being pushed.
01:07 Proving the persistent tension between Makati and Taguig is the start of the Atibagan High School in Barangay East, Rembo,
01:14 which was removed an hour before Mayor Cayetano arrived for Brigada Escuela.
01:19 But the Makati City Government insists that Taguig needs to secure a rate of execution
01:24 to effect the transfer of jurisdiction over the 10 barangays.
01:28 It further adds that the entry of Taguig City's personnel in public schools in disputed areas is unlawful.
01:35 The Mayor of Taguig, however, says this is just part of Makati's delaying tactics.
01:41 We did not discuss the rate of execution because what else is unclear in the final and executory court's statement?
01:50 Their intention really is to delay and to distract us so that we cannot focus.
01:55 On the issue of funds, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay says that the Taguig City Government
02:00 is not capable of funding the billions of pesos for the services they provide to the 14 affected schools.
02:06 According to her, total expenditures of Makati have reached more than 600 million pesos in just six months.
02:13 In response, Mayor Cayetano says,
02:16 We are not rich but for more than a decade, we have been providing school supplies and school kits that our students use.
02:27 Junior High School student Cedric is hoping that everything will be alright in the end.
02:32 It is not easy to accept but we are hoping that everyone will accept.
02:38 And if Taguig City can provide, the district will accept.
02:45 EJ Gomez, CNN Philippines.
