As Chandrayaan-3 approaches moon, ISRO to lower the orbit close to the lunar surface today
  • 8 months ago
India's Chandrayaan-3 is set to make a significant move in its journey towards the Moon's surface today. The Indian Space Research Organization has announced that the spacecraft will lower its orbit around the Moon on August 14 just before afternoon today. This maneuver will bring the spacecraft even closer to the Moon's surface, lower than 1,437 km, where it currently is. Launched from Sriharikota's Satish Dhawan Space Center on July 14, 2023, Chandrayaan-3 has been steadily progressing towards its goal of conducting a successful soft landing on the Moon. The spacecraft is currently about 1,437 kilometers away from the Moon, and this upcoming operation will bring it significantly closer. The procedures leading up to the soft landing are intricate and carefully planned. They consist of three stages - Earth orbit maneuvers, Trans-lunar injection, and Lunar orbit maneuvers.
