Airlines Rally to Evacuate Maui Amid Devastating Wildfires
  • 9 months ago
Airlines have responded to the devastating wildfires on Maui, Hawaii, by increasing their flight services to aid travelers leaving the island. Over 11,000 people have been evacuated since the fires began, with Lahaina, a seaside town, being heavily affected. American Airlines has rearranged its flights, even using larger aircraft to accommodate the evacuation process. Southwest Airlines is introducing additional services from the mainland U.S. and within the Hawaiian islands. United Airlines canceled incoming flights but sends empty aircraft to assist with evacuation efforts. All major airlines have waived fare differences and penalties for those whose travel plans were disrupted by the wildfires.
