00:35 "I'm deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson, Leo.
00:38 We're greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone.
00:40 We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo."
00:43 Robert's daughter, Drena De Niro, also grieved the loss of Leandro.
00:47 She wrote in part on Instagram on the day of her son's death,
00:50 "My beautiful, sweet angel.
00:51 I have loved you beyond words or description
00:53 from the moment I felt you in my belly.
00:55 You have been my joy, my heart,
00:57 and all that was ever pure and real in my life.
00:59 I wish I was with you right now.
01:00 I wish I was with you.
01:02 I don't know how to live without you,
01:03 but I'll try to go on and spread the love and light
01:05 that you so made me feel in getting to be your mama.
01:07 You were so deeply loved and appreciated,
01:09 and I wish that love alone could have saved you."
01:12 Last week, Drena shared a tribute to Leandro one month after his death.
01:15 She wrote on Instagram,
01:17 "Today marks one whole month without my baby.
01:19 I think of you and long for you, every minute of every day.
01:22 Never forget how happy you made so many people just by being here
01:25 and being beautiful, kind-hearted you.
01:28 Your legacy is love.

01:33 The heartbreaking news of Leandro's death
01:35 came just one month after Robert De Niro spoke to Access Hollywood
01:38 at the 2023 Tribeca Festival, which he co-founded.
01:42 You were also celebrating 30 years of A Bronx Tale at the screening.
01:45 I'm curious, do you watch your movies, both of you, very often?
01:50 No, I haven't seen Bronx Tale for many years,
01:53 but I'm really curious and just want to go through the experience
01:58 of seeing it at the Beacon, which is a great theater,
02:00 beautiful theater, with an audience.
02:05 That hasn't happened in the last few years for obvious reasons,
02:07 so I'm really looking forward to it,
02:10 and then sitting down and talking after about it.
02:13 I watched it recently because we did an interview for the Blu-ray
02:19 that's coming out in September, so...
02:22 - Getting that. - Yeah, exactly.
02:24 We're also extremely excited.
02:26 I'm sure it's much easier to watch your films
02:28 when they come with a nine-minute standing ovation at Cannes,
02:32 but I want to ask you, we're killers, obviously, everyone's talking about,
02:35 but what do you remember about this little boy?
02:38 - Aw, there he is. - How does he look to you?
02:42 Well, there it is.
02:46 What can I say?
02:48 You can keep that.
02:50 Leo doesn't look too happy there.
02:51 I think I was mistreating him as the stepfather.
02:56 No, I'm so proud of Leo.
02:58 I mean, he's doing great, you know?
03:02 It was finally a time where we could do a movie together, this film,
03:07 and I hope that we can do another,
03:09 at least another movie together with Marty.
03:13 It was a great experience.
