00:00 Riley Keough is opening up about a bittersweet memory.
00:04 The Daisy Jones and the Six Stars shared in a new interview with Vanity Fair published
00:08 on Tuesday, the last time she saw Lisa Marie Presley just days before the singer's death.
00:13 Lisa Marie passed away in January at just 54 years old, and Riley revealed that the
00:17 two shared dinner after the 2023 Golden Globes, saying, "I remember thinking about how beautiful
00:23 she looked, and that was my strongest memory of the dinner."
00:27 The 34-year-old also gave insight into her own motherhood experience as a new mom to
00:31 her first child, a baby girl with husband Ben Smith-Peterson.
00:35 Riley confirmed not only the little one's name, Tupelo Storm Smith-Peterson, but also
00:39 how it honors both her grandfather, Elvis Presley, and her late brother, Benjamin.
00:45 Storm was also Benjamin's middle name.
00:47 The 27-year-old sadly died by suicide in 2020.
00:50 He and Riley were famously close, and she told VF that he was, quote, "a special soul
00:55 and like her twin."
00:57 And Tupelo is the Mississippi birthplace of the King of Rock and Roll.
01:01 Riley admitted that she thought the choice was a bit obscure at first, until last year's
01:05 Elvis film premiered and put the city in a larger spotlight.
01:09 "It's funny because we picked her name before the Elvis movie.
01:12 I was like, 'This is great because it's not really a well-known word or name in relation
01:17 to my family.
01:18 It's not like Memphis or something,'" Riley said, adding, "Then when the Elvis movie
01:22 came out, it was like, 'Tupelo this and Tupelo that.'
01:25 I was like, 'Oh no,' but it's fine."
01:29 The Emmy nominee explained that she and Ben welcomed their daughter via surrogate in August
01:32 2022 and how they came to the decision due to the actress' Lyme disease, saying, "I
01:38 think it's a very cool, selfless and incredible act that these women do to help other people.
01:43 I can carry children, but it felt like the best choice for what I had going on physically
01:47 with the autoimmune stuff."
01:49 Riley and Ben kept their personal family news private and didn't publicly confirm their
01:53 daughter's arrival until Lisa Marie's memorial, where Ben took the podium on Riley's behalf
01:58 and shared how she wants to shower their little girl with as much love as she received from
02:02 Lisa Marie growing up.
02:04 "Thank you for being my mother in this life.
02:07 I am eternally grateful to have spent 33 years with you.
02:11 I'm certain I chose the best mother for me in this world and I knew that as far back
02:15 as I can remember you.
02:17 I remember everything.
02:20 I remember you giving me baths as a baby.
02:22 I remember you driving me in my car seat, listening to Aretha Franklin.
02:26 I remember the way you would cuddle me and when I'd come into your bed at night and the
02:31 way you smelled.
02:34 I remember you taking me for ice cream after school in Florida.
02:38 I remember you singing me and my brother lullabies at night and how you'd lay with us until we
02:42 fell asleep.
02:44 I remember how every time you'd leave town you'd bring me a new tea set from Cracker
02:48 Barrel.
02:50 I remember all the notes you'd leave in my lunchbox every day.
02:55 I remember the feeling I'd get when I'd see you picking me up from school, the way your
02:59 hand felt on my forehead.
03:02 I remember how it felt to be loved by the most loving mother I've ever known.
03:06 I remember how safe it felt to be in your arms.
03:10 I remember that feeling as a child and I remember it two weeks ago on your couch.
03:15 Thank you for showing me that love is the only thing that matters in this life.
03:19 I hope I can love my daughter the way you loved me, the way you loved my brother and
03:28 my sisters.
03:31 Thank you for giving me strength, my heart, my empathy, my courage, my sense of humor,
03:36 my manners, my temper, my wildness, my tenacity.
03:41 I'm a product of your heart.
03:44 My sisters are a product of your heart.
03:47 My brother is a product of your heart.
03:49 We are you.
03:50 You are us.
03:52 My eternal love.
03:53 I hope you finally know how loved you were here.
03:57 Thank you for trying so hard for us.
04:00 If I didn't tell you every day, thank you.
