00:00 Welcome back to a new day here on CNN Philippines.
00:02 While Filipino-American rapper Eazy Mill is keeping things real,
00:06 he recently dropped a new track called "Realist"
00:09 featuring none other than American rap icon, songwriter, and producer Eminem.
00:14 The release came after he signed with Eminem's Shady Records
00:17 and rapper-producer Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment,
00:20 as well as Interscope Records, which handles both artists.
00:24 Eazy is joining us now live via Zoom from Las Vegas, Nevada.
00:28 Hi Eazy! Wow! Congratulations to you!
00:32 Thank you, po.
00:35 And what a dream! I mean, this is definitely a dream come true for you,
00:41 for, you know, whoever, for any artist that would be working with all of these rap royalties.
00:47 I mean, first of all, how does it feel? Are you still on Cloud 9?
00:50 Are you happy that the cat is out of the bag, that you can finally talk about it?
00:56 Yes, actually. It's a breath of fresh air to be able to converse about it.
01:03 'Cause, like, it's just been a long-kept secret, like, you know, with just the team.
01:08 And, yeah.
01:10 So, okay, you said it was a long-kept secret. How long did you have to be mum about this?
01:17 I mean, this kind of opportunity really doesn't come often, doesn't happen to anyone ever.
01:23 So how did this whole deal come to be?
01:27 So, it was just, like, through the camp, like, through emails.
01:34 We thought at first it was, like, you know, a joke.
01:39 And then, even, it had to be our people at Virgin to, like, kind of give us a nudge that,
01:46 "Yo, we're gonna have this secret meeting."
01:48 And then it kind of just went from there.
01:51 'Cause we were just all, like, working, you know?
01:54 Like, just going about our days, I was working on songs.
01:57 That's why I had the beat for "Realist" ready.
02:00 And I just made sure I brought that, like, you know, up until the moment.
02:04 Then, boom, boom, I met them.
02:07 And then they said they loved "Up Down."
02:11 And that's what, like, that's what, like, he said, caught his attention.
02:17 So, and then when I showed them the "Realist" beat, and, yeah,
02:23 Dre just said, "Yeah, I'm gonna eat that up."
02:30 And then so on and so forth.
02:33 Give us a bit of a time frame here, okay?
02:35 So, "Up Down," this was released when? 2022?
02:41 What's released in 2022?
02:46 Oh, your "Up Down."
02:48 The song that caught Eminem's eye.
02:53 Wasn't it this year?
02:56 Oh, was it this year? Early this year, 2023?
02:58 Was this when it came out?
03:01 Okay, so you had this amazing song that caught his eye.
03:12 I mean, and Eminem even wrote something about you, like, on Instagram.
03:16 And, you know, he says, "Allow me to introduce to you, Isigal Miller.
03:21 He is the realest possible way."
03:24 I mean, how does that make you feel?
03:27 It was, like, something that I never thought would happen because, you know,
03:34 he's just someone that I would listen to.
03:38 And, like, I used to feel that way about Tito Boy, Ate Toni.
03:48 But it's different now because I listen to him, like, in my free time.
03:54 And, like, even outside when I'm skating or doing whatever with friends.
04:00 And we would just, like, kind of...
04:03 Like, in the Philippines, when he comes to the RUP, he's like Eminem.
04:08 It would just be like that.
04:10 And to just...
04:12 Yeah.
04:13 It's just amazing.
04:15 But, Isig, how has this changed your life?
04:19 You know, you have the influence now of, of course, your Filipino fans
04:24 who have followed you from day one.
04:26 And then, of course, you moved to the States.
04:28 And you had your fans there as you released your albums of Act One or Resonance
04:34 and, of course, Duality.
04:35 You had your little tribe, you know, following you around.
04:39 But now you have the Eminem and the Dr. Dre.
04:42 So, little by little, I mean, your world just keeps getting bigger and bigger each time.
04:47 I guess so. I guess so.
04:52 But, you know, I just try to live up to what the people say I am,
04:59 especially when it comes to, like, you know, the good things that they say about me.
05:04 And still to this day, like, you know, working on what I need to be working on.
05:10 So, just right now, more music and... Yeah.
05:14 Okay. Well, speaking of more music, Realist is out.
05:18 Talk to me about it.
05:19 You mentioned it earlier that you had, you know, maybe the beat of Realist.
05:23 I mean, before you even met Eminem and Dr. Dre,
05:28 tell me a little bit what they thought about what you had so far.
05:33 Oh, they... They was liking it because initially when I played it,
05:39 like, I just packed the beat, like, onto my laptop, like, before I got there.
05:44 And then when I played it to them, like, there was vibe into it
05:47 'cause there was the first verse and then the chorus of the piano in the studio.
05:53 And when they heard it, like, yeah, they was really liking it
05:57 because I felt like the recent... the recent sounding of it,
06:04 I just felt like it was... it was something that in that moment,
06:09 I had a feeling Em would really snap on it, and he did.
06:14 So yeah, go check out.
06:17 It is out. I mean, how was it, you working with Eminem?
06:22 What were the tips that he gave you?
06:25 Well, it's like... I don't know,
06:32 'cause he was also excited to explore other avenues of music,
06:39 like, what I do, like, what I can do.
06:44 And I still want to learn from them because, oh, geez,
06:48 they really love this.
06:50 So right now, I'm still yearning for some more time, you know?
06:54 'Cause now, it's like we're just in a work, you know, work time schedule.
07:00 Okay.
07:01 And I'm hopeful for some more moments like that.
07:04 Okay, so now, of course, you've signed three international record labels.
07:09 I mean, what else can your fans expect from you?
07:11 More music, more collaborations, and...
07:14 Okay, go first.
07:16 What's next for you?
07:17 I understand "Duality Redux" is also coming out soon.
07:21 Yes, "Duality Redux" coming out this Friday,
07:26 so make sure y'all keep your eyes peeled
07:28 because we're gonna be announcing some stuff soon.
07:31 And, yeah, more music, more music videos, definitely.
07:36 Oh, boy, am I excited for that.
07:38 So, yeah, make sure y'all stay tuned.
07:41 And, yeah, peace and love.
07:43 And, of course, we are so excited of you.
07:47 We are raising the Philippine flag with you.
07:49 How do you plan on representing the Philippines?
07:52 As I said, you seem to now have--
07:54 You're the best of both worlds.
07:56 How can you best represent rap here in the Philippines?
08:01 And, of course, will our rap here in the Philippines change a bit?
08:07 Because our rap here is different from the rap in the world or in the US.
08:14 Well, I feel like it also depends on what people want.
08:22 So, I feel like a song like "Realize"
08:26 even if it's in English, the whole song,
08:28 look, the people appreciate it, right?
08:32 And with other ventures, that's why even in the song,
08:36 I'm saying like England, Germany, France, and Japan's in here
08:40 because it's just hip-hop right now.
08:42 It's not just like ventured into one country.
08:45 Like, there's so many avenues of it, like, going into.
08:49 And I'm just happy to be a part of like, you know,
08:53 this unity that you kind of see of like this new fold of artists
08:59 and like the sounds that could be done
09:02 in our language and the language of other countries.
09:06 It's beautiful.
09:08 And speaking of our language, EZ,
09:10 are you continuing or are you going to start dishing out songs as well
09:15 similar to your "Panalo"
09:17 wherein you had your Tagalog, English, and Ilocano
09:20 with the signing in the new labels?
09:23 Will we expect more of those songs as well?
09:26 Oh, yeah.
09:28 I have a lot of Tagalog raps that are still in store
09:32 and like pending to get out there.
09:36 But right now, we're just going to kind of go at it
09:39 with the momentum that we've garnered with "Realist"
09:45 and the other rollouts.
09:47 So, for like, of course, the Redux coming out this Friday.
09:51 And like, even after that,
09:54 there are some Tagalogs that are going to be in the next projects.
09:59 Yeah.
10:00 Okay. So, of course, we look forward to that.
10:02 Of course, you're here for your homecomings tour here in 2022.
10:06 And of course, we look forward to you coming back in 2023 or even 2024
10:11 to have a bigger concert as we can welcome you back to the Philippines
10:16 and of course with your wonderful music.
10:18 Thank you so much.
10:19 Congratulations again.
10:20 Easy. Best of luck to you.
10:21 Thank you for joining us here on "YOUDAY."
10:23 Thank you for having me.
