00:02 Hopefully our Green Thumb Tuesday segment

00:07 may have inspired you to dig into

00:09 your own gardening adventure,

00:10 but you're probably wondering where to start.

00:13 Well, Green Thumbs Gardens got you covered.

00:16 - We design and store and maintain kitchen gardens,

00:20 food production systems in any space.

00:22 So when we say any space,

00:23 we mean that anyone anywhere can grow their own food.

00:28 - For the last five years, 27 year old Jamil Philip

00:31 has been nurturing his business

00:33 that provides infrastructure for citizens to be healthier.

00:37 - You tell us what space you have,

00:39 if you have any space, if you wanna do it in ground,

00:42 if you wanna do a hydroponic system,

00:44 if you wanna do an aquaponic system.

00:46 And then from there we do a site visit.

00:49 We come to your area, look at it,

00:53 see how the sunlight levels are in that particular spot.

00:57 You might wanna do or we check the soil.

01:00 And from there we do all the work around it

01:04 from start to finish.

01:06 And if you want us to maintain it as well,

01:08 we can or we guide you on how to maintain it.

01:11 - The university graduate says

01:13 while many are now leaning towards home gardens

01:16 as a strategy to enhance household food security,

01:19 they often run into simple hurdles,

01:22 unable to cross because of a lack of knowledge.

01:25 - The only time I was interested in agriculture

01:27 was when I was at UE, which was at the university level.

01:31 So there was primary school, secondary school

01:33 where there was a big gap that I wasn't able

01:37 to even experiment in that field

01:40 to see if I would like that.

01:41 A lot of us know that we do,

01:44 you put a red bean on a napkin and you wet it.

01:47 But where do we go from there?

01:48 There's no follow up after that.

01:50 I think that's where we get lost.

01:52 - And you won't believe

01:54 what is the most common blunder made.

01:56 - A lot of persons, they either forget to water their plants

01:59 or they don't water it enough.

02:02 And that is the biggest mistake I see

02:05 with a lot of the gardens we do.

02:06 And that's why I recommend persons

02:08 have some sort of irrigation system.

02:11 - Studies also suggest food items from home gardens

02:14 add substantially to the family energy

02:16 and nutrition requirements on a continuous basis.

02:20 It is why the young farmer is driven

02:22 to provide easy daily access

02:24 to an assortment of fresh and nutritious food.
