00:00 (dramatic music)
00:02 The animal kingdom is a wild place,
00:06 but when you think of violence,
00:08 you probably think of lions and tigers
00:10 and other big animals.
00:11 Well, sometimes even the birds display
00:13 their fair share of aggression.
00:15 They aren't always like the ones in Disney movies,
00:18 sweet and always singing.
00:19 Sometimes they're even more violent than other animals.
00:22 Today, we're gonna show you 35 of the most epic
00:25 in-air battles to be recorded.
00:28 Mother hen attacks eagle.
00:31 This eagle no doubt saw the hen and its baby chicks
00:33 and expected an easy target.
00:35 Not so fast though.
00:37 The mama hen wasn't going to let anyone come near her kids.
00:40 It almost looks like she's scolding the eagle
00:42 who stands there stunned,
00:44 feeling sorry for even trying anything.
00:46 Eagle versus eagle fight.
00:49 Today we learned that when eagles get mad
00:52 and fight each other,
00:53 they literally lock talons
00:54 and try to pull the other one over.
00:56 All that fighting over a fish.
00:58 You think the one that came second
01:00 would just go and grab a bite for itself to eat?
01:02 There's gotta be enough fish in the sea
01:04 for both these angry birds.
01:06 Bird versus bat.
01:08 These two flighty animals have it out for each other.
01:11 The bird is much quicker and flies to and fro really fast.
01:15 The bat on the other hand seems injured.
01:17 It's having some trouble moving
01:19 and seems like it's suffering,
01:20 pushing itself forward with its wings that way.
01:23 Not a fair fight at all.
01:26 One hawk versus five magpies.
01:28 This hawk is not here to play any games.
01:31 Not only was it killing one magpie,
01:33 but it did so despite four other magpies who were present
01:36 and kept trying to take it on.
01:38 How often do we see birds of prey
01:40 demonstrate their sheer dominance over their prey?
01:43 It was definitely outnumbered
01:44 and those figures should have meant total defeat,
01:47 but you can tell that the magpies
01:49 are still afraid of the hawk.
01:50 They definitely don't want to end up like the other guy.
01:53 Turkey dodges eagle.
01:56 When you're as big as the turkey,
01:57 you ordinarily wouldn't be scared
01:59 of being eaten by another bird.
02:01 But when you live close to certain birds of prey,
02:03 nothing is guaranteed.
02:04 This turkey was almost eagle dinner
02:06 if not for its vigilance and agility.
02:09 The turkey moved away at the exact second
02:11 the eagle dived right in and reached it.
02:14 No dinner for you today, buddy.
02:15 Try again tomorrow.
02:17 Eagle and snake.
02:18 Right from the very start,
02:21 you know this snake's lost this one.
02:23 See the way the bird's literally got the reptile
02:25 wrapped around its finger?
02:26 Good luck getting out of that one.
02:28 Looks like the battle's already been won, but by the eagle.
02:31 Owl gets dive bombed.
02:34 This owl was sitting on a tree branch,
02:37 chilling, minding its own business.
02:39 You know, typical owl stuff, and then bam!
02:41 Out of nowhere, this hawk swoops in and dive bombs the owl.
02:45 The owl doesn't seem the least bit surprised.
02:48 Looks for a second in the hawk's direction
02:50 and then it resumes its unbothered stance.
02:53 Crows fighting hawk.
02:54 Crows are ominous birds.
02:57 Wherever you see them, it's either something
02:59 is about to go down or it's probably already happening.
03:01 In this clip, the crows were basically up to no good.
03:05 But you gotta respect hawks after seeing this one.
03:08 It just sits calmly there and lets the crows gather around
03:10 and try and scare it.
03:12 It knows their bark is worse than their bite,
03:14 so it stands its ground, just cleans itself
03:16 while they try to make their presence felt.
03:19 They were probably just jealous
03:20 that the hawk had something to eat
03:22 and they didn't.
03:23 Prairie falcon knocks out drake mallard.
03:26 When this drake mallard decided to take a nap
03:29 while the rest of the brace retreated for safety,
03:31 it had no idea death would come from the sky fast and hard.
03:35 The falcon landed such a deadly swipe on the mallard,
03:38 it didn't even have a chance to escape.
03:40 The falcon then hobbles back to claim its prize.
03:42 It's a cold world out there.
03:45 Bald eagle deals with home intruder.
03:48 This bald eagle came home and found an intruder
03:50 in its nest.
03:51 An owl had somehow stumbled upon its nest
03:53 and randomly decided to make itself at home.
03:55 Of course, the eagle had to lash out.
03:58 Anyone would be pissed if they found a stranger
04:00 had entered their home like that.
04:02 The eagle then proceeded to shoo the owl away
04:04 by engulfing it in its huge wings.
04:06 It never stood a chance.
04:08 Hawk tries to grab dog.
04:11 Home security cameras captured the moment
04:14 that this family dog was chilling in the backyard.
04:17 You can even see someone cleaning the pool.
04:19 No one would have guessed what happened next.
04:21 The dog suddenly gets almost grabbed and kidnapped
04:23 by a random hawk making the rounds.
04:26 The bird probably underestimated
04:28 how big the dog actually was.
04:30 Flying heron gets dive bombed.
04:33 This heron was just flying over the water,
04:35 making its round.
04:36 Then an osprey nearby noticed
04:38 and decided to disturb its peace.
04:40 Eagle attacks chicken coop.
04:43 In a desperate attempt to literally grab lunch,
04:46 this eagle attacks a chicken coop
04:48 even when it knows there will be humans around.
04:51 The eagle got into a bit of a tussle with the chicken
04:53 but wasn't able to overcome it
04:55 before the humans arrived and it had to flee.
04:58 Better luck next time, Mr. Mighty Eagle.
05:00 Bald eagle takes on red-tailed hawk.
05:04 This bald eagle was flying
05:05 and then a red-tailed hawk decided to pick a fight with it.
05:09 The eagle very smoothly flips itself
05:11 and moves away from the enemy.
05:13 Does it almost a little too perfectly as if it was rehearsed.
05:16 Still, it was pretty majestic to watch.
05:18 Owl hates hawk.
05:21 These two birds were found right in the middle of a fight.
05:25 They both just sort of look at the camera
05:27 then with complete confusion on their faces.
05:30 The owl makes a lot of noise, maybe it's asking for help?
05:33 They both are just lying there
05:35 and it looks like during their scuffle,
05:37 they sort of got stuck to each other.
05:39 But from the looks of it,
05:40 the owl was more grateful that the man intervened.
05:43 Sparrowhawk fights magpie.
05:46 Here we see two birds engaged in combat.
05:49 They've got each other in a lock
05:50 and for now it seems like it could be anyone's fight.
05:53 The sparrowhawk has the magpie pinned down
05:56 but the magpie isn't even close to giving up.
05:59 Wait, no, it's dead.
06:01 The sparrowhawk was literally eating it
06:03 even before it really died.
06:05 Rest in peace, Mr. Magpie, you put up a good fight.
06:08 Sparrowhawk and starling.
06:12 Look at this poor starling.
06:13 There's no chance for this one now.
06:15 Once the sparrowhawk got its claws into you,
06:17 you're as good as dead.
06:19 It's almost painful to see it crying out for help like that
06:22 knowing it's doomed.
06:23 If there's anything that we've learned today,
06:25 it's that sparrowhawks are not to be messed with
06:28 under absolutely any circumstances.
06:31 They will mess up anyone they want
06:33 and it won't be hard for them either.
06:35 Mid-air eagle fight.
06:37 Now that's a sight to behold.
06:39 Two eagles battling for dominance while in flight.
06:43 Then they lock talons and sort of spin around for a while.
06:46 Then they let go and fly their separate ways.
06:48 Then they came back together for another round
06:50 since there was no clear winner.
06:52 Looks like they both exert equal force
06:55 and then end up falling down together
06:57 when they couldn't keep up.
06:58 After emerging victorious,
07:00 the winning duo makes a victory lap,
07:02 but I have a question.
07:04 What happened to the fish?
07:06 Eagle attacks and takes down seagull in a golf course.
07:09 This eagle is all riled up.
07:11 It's clearly mad at the seagull and out for some vengeance.
07:14 The eagle follows in hot pursuit, not giving up.
07:18 Finally, its efforts pay off and the eagle gets its paws in,
07:21 grabbing a hold of the seagull and bringing it down.
07:24 You don't see things like this every day at the golf course.
07:27 Hen protects babies from crow.
07:31 Motherhood is indeed one of, if not the strongest instincts
07:34 in just about every living thing on earth.
07:36 Just ask this hen.
07:38 When her babies were being threatened by a crow,
07:40 no way was she going to sit around and let them be eaten.
07:43 She chased the crow off savagely,
07:45 making it regret its decision.
07:47 The crow must be regretting ever setting foot
07:50 on that enclosure.
07:51 It's trapped with nowhere to go,
07:53 but it's not gonna fight for its life
07:55 till someone gets it out of there.
07:57 Eventually, they arrive at a truce
07:59 with the crow lying in submission.
08:01 Eagle grabs and attacks goat off cliff.
08:05 This is as real and raw as it gets,
08:07 the brutal food chain in action.
08:09 It's tough not to feel sorry for the goat.
08:11 That couldn't have been a decent way to go out,
08:14 being dragged off a mountain
08:15 and then turned into eagle dinner.
08:17 Also, notice just how strong this eagle is,
08:20 flying while holding an entire goat carcass in its talons,
08:24 as if we needed more reasons to be scared
08:26 of these big birds.
08:28 Eagle fights baby warthog.
08:30 This is a stealthy and experienced hunter in its element.
08:35 The eagle held onto the baby warthog by its neck
08:38 and it spread its wings and created a makeshift cover
08:40 around it to nicely shield it
08:42 from any other potentially interested hungry animal views.
08:46 Looks like someone doesn't wanna share.
08:48 Eagle fights sloth.
08:50 You'd think that a sloth would be no match for an eagle,
08:54 considering how slow and docile it is.
08:57 Well, there's an exception to every rule
08:59 and here, that's very much the case.
09:01 Take a look at this sloth,
09:03 letting out punches faster than the speed of lightning.
09:06 Of course, the eagle had to back down and leave.
09:08 That was nothing short of complete public humiliation.
09:11 Lion, annihilated by bird.
09:14 Lions are usually on top of everything,
09:16 but in this case, it seems as though
09:18 no matter how hard this one tries,
09:20 it just can't make a clean swipe
09:22 and get its claws into the bird,
09:24 who's just a little too fast every single time.
09:27 Don't worry, lion, you'll get it next time.
09:30 Eagle versus crow.
09:32 This eagle was sitting on the ledge,
09:35 cleaning itself and then out of thin air,
09:37 the crow sees its chance and dive bombs the eagle,
09:40 taking it down with it.
09:42 It happens so fast, you can barely even see it.
09:44 Let's watch it in slow motion.
09:47 This looks like the bird equivalent of getting mugged.
09:49 The eagle, usually a very stealthy and excellent predator
09:53 with great reflexes, somehow never saw that coming.
09:56 The crow just had perfect timing.
09:59 Kestrel versus pigeon.
10:00 Yes, this pigeon definitely never stood a chance
10:04 against the kestrel.
10:05 It's got totally pinned down and helpless.
10:08 The chase between both birds
10:10 came to an unfortunate premature end for the pigeon,
10:13 but the kestrel will be satisfied with its catch.
10:16 Two drongos.
10:18 Here we see the two drongos go head to head
10:22 in a heated battle.
10:23 You almost can't even tell at first glance
10:26 that there's two birds, it just looks like one.
10:29 Then they fly off and chase each other for a bit
10:31 before coming right back to where they started.
10:33 Looks like they're an even match for each other.
10:35 It could be anybody's fight at this point.
10:38 We're gonna have to declare this a tie.
10:40 Sparrowhawk gets absolutely owned.
10:43 This sparrowhawk thought the jackdaw
10:45 would be an easy target and went straight for it
10:49 without realizing that it wasn't all by itself.
10:52 As soon as the crows arrived,
10:53 the sparrowhawk was doomed and it ended up losing.
10:57 Not to mention how badly outnumbered the bird is too.
11:00 It's three against one.
11:01 Hardly fair, but nature's brutal like that.
11:04 It's almost like watching a poor defenseless kid
11:07 get picked on by three bullies.
11:09 But the sparrowhawk was the one who started it,
11:11 so it's a bit hard to feel sorry for it.
11:14 Snake versus eagle.
11:16 Big bird versus snakes, a time-old rivalry.
11:21 This time the eagle had the advantage of surprise
11:23 on its side and used that to get ahead.
11:26 The snake hid from the eagle under the water,
11:28 but it eventually had to come out too,
11:30 and by then it was too late.
11:32 The eagle swooped in and grabbed it
11:34 before the snake could possibly know what hit him.
11:36 Hen versus eagle.
11:39 What could this eagle possibly have done
11:42 to make the hen that angry?
11:44 Hens can be extremely vicious when they wanna be,
11:46 and this eagle made the sad mistake
11:48 of underestimating its opponent and losing pretty badly.
11:52 The hen even walks in circles around it to taunt it.
11:55 Yeah, that's gotta be humiliating for the eagle,
11:58 getting owned by a chicken.
12:00 The eagle will think twice before getting into any hole
12:02 containing a hen and its chicks.
12:05 Eagle versus snake fight.
12:07 It wasn't even hard for this eagle.
12:09 All it had to do was step right up
12:11 and claim the snake for itself.
12:13 The snake, however, looks like it's just totally given up
12:16 and accepted its fate.
12:18 It doesn't even try to fight back.
12:20 The eagle stares off into the distance,
12:22 with one foot firmly holding the snake down,
12:24 as if thinking to itself,
12:26 "Wow, that was even easier than I thought."
12:29 The eagle also looks like it doesn't know what to do,
12:31 as if it didn't expect to get this far.
12:34 Eagle versus snake.
12:36 Okay, so this isn't even really a fight.
12:39 The eagle already won.
12:41 It's got the snake by its neck,
12:42 firmly in its talons, not even trying.
12:45 The snake hisses and tries to fight back,
12:47 but it's ultimately useless.
12:49 The eagle then looks down at the snake, confused,
12:52 probably thinking about what to do next.
12:55 Bird versus mouse.
12:58 This bird can't stop picking on the poor little mouse.
13:00 You can see the mouse just wants to get away
13:02 and mind its own business,
13:03 but the bird has other plans
13:05 and just won't leave the poor thing alone.
13:08 Maybe it thinks the rat's tail is a worm
13:10 and is trying to get at that and not the mouse?
13:13 Owl versus wolf.
13:14 Owls are incredibly agile hunters.
13:18 They're not to be underestimated,
13:20 especially when they have their babies to protect.
13:23 Much like the motherly instinct in any other animal,
13:26 they would fight to the death to keep their young ones safe.
13:29 So when this owl saw that a wolf was drawing near,
13:32 it went out and faced it head on,
13:34 diving low and attacking it in quick swoops.
13:37 The wolf was at an obvious disadvantage,
13:39 not being able to fly.
13:40 The owl returns and it can rest easy now,
13:43 knowing its family is safe for the time being.
13:46 Eagle versus airplane.
13:48 This golden eagle thinks the airplane
13:51 is some sort of large animal,
13:52 and so it must attack it and establish its dominance.
13:55 So who's going to be the one to tell this eagle
13:58 that the plane is in fact not an animal?
14:00 Actually, maybe it's trying to land on it
14:03 and get a free ride, saving itself the energy?
14:06 Eagle kills seagull.
14:08 Why are these eagles flying around so fast over the water?
14:12 Oh, they must be hungry and searching for some game.
14:15 When one of them grabs a hold of a dead seagull
14:18 and tries to fly off, the rest follow closely behind,
14:21 hoping to get a bite for themselves.
14:23 But we must commend the seagull for ducking so well
14:26 the first few times.
14:28 Snake attacked heron.
14:29 This poor heron is doomed from the very beginning.
14:33 It's in the water and the snake's firmly got its fangs
14:36 sunk into the bird.
14:37 It tries to get away, but resisting it at this point
14:40 is pretty useless.
14:41 Maybe the heron does stand a chance and could get away
14:44 if only the snake isn't a venomous one.
14:46 The heron flails around and pecks at the snake
14:48 with its long beak, but the snake is unaffected
14:51 and its grip on the heron doesn't loosen at all.
14:54 No, wait, the heron has got itself away
14:56 and it goes to land.
14:57 You can see the wound on the poor thing's wing
14:59 where the snake bit down.
15:02 Gray francolin takes on cock.
15:04 We're used to seeing cocks battle each other
15:06 for whatever reason, but this,
15:08 much like some of the clips we've seen so far,
15:11 isn't something you see every day.
15:13 The cock seems all riled up,
15:15 probably because it wanted to mate so badly,
15:17 but the gray falcolin wouldn't let him concentrate
15:20 and keep disturbing the lovebirds.
15:22 So you'll understand the cock is not keen
15:24 on ending the fight, which it eventually fled from
15:27 at the end, chicken.
15:28 Seagulls balancing act.
15:31 Rather than going at each other,
15:33 the seagulls decided to have a balancing practice,
15:36 or it could be some sort of training exercise
15:38 to build their leg strength, we can't tell.
15:41 But this is something we should see more of,
15:43 love among birds.
15:45 Eagle takes down gray blue heron.
15:48 When this blue heron saw it was being chased
15:50 by two hungry and mean eagles,
15:52 it decided to run into the stream for safety,
15:55 forgetting its foes could also swim.
15:58 The now-stranded heron knew its game was up
16:00 and stood no chance against the eagle, mano y mano.
16:04 The eagle made a meal of it and dragged it up to the shore
16:07 to share with its mate.
16:08 Sparrowhawk wrestles jagdaw in the streets.
16:12 There've been instances where the sparrowhawk
16:14 slugged it out with a jagdaw,
16:16 and this time they're taking their wrestling match
16:18 to the streets.
16:19 The sparrowhawk has the jagdaw pinned
16:22 with no way to get it off.
16:23 The sparrowhawk keeps landing those body blows
16:26 while the jagdaw tries to counterpunch.
16:28 But when the sparrowhawk has its game pinned like that,
16:31 we know it's lights out and game over.
16:34 Gosling narrowly escapes sandhill crane attack.
16:38 You know how bullies like to hit on smaller dudes?
16:41 Well, this sandhill crane got a little frustrated with life
16:44 and decided to pick on a little gosling
16:46 by nearly ripping its head off with its pointy beak.
16:49 Luckily, the gosling's parents were on hand
16:51 to tell it never to try it again or end up in a body bag.
16:56 Opportunistic bird steals goslings.
16:59 In this next clip, the boss of the lake, the mute swan,
17:02 doesn't want the geese raising their goslings
17:04 on its side of the lake.
17:05 So anytime it sees them, it chases them out of the water.
17:09 Of course, the mother goose can easily flee,
17:11 but the goslings can't.
17:13 Therefore, they get separated from their mother.
17:15 Unknowing to the mother goose,
17:17 some hungry birds were waiting for the right time
17:19 to steal their babies.
17:21 Within a flash, the heron swoops in and steals the goslings.
17:25 Not long after, a crow goes in and makes its pick.
17:28 Finally, the seagull joins the baby goose stealing party.
17:31 It must've been a gosling buffet for the birds out there.
17:35 Peregrine chases pigeon.
17:37 It's time to look to the skies for some midair action.
17:40 This time, we've got a hot pursuit
17:42 between a peregrine falcon and a pigeon
17:44 in a life and death race.
17:46 But the pigeon was fast too fast for the peregrine.
17:49 You can now see how the person filming
17:51 is finding it hard to keep up with the chase.
17:54 Brave penguin dad saves the day.
17:57 While this young penguin was out swimming,
17:59 training to become a pro just like its parents,
18:01 a giant petrel spots it just as it was getting
18:04 a little carried away from the fun.
18:06 The giant petrel zeroes in,
18:08 causing penguin panic on the beach.
18:10 The petrel grabs the young penguin by the base of its skull
18:13 and aims to sever a vein there.
18:15 The chick is overmatched and outnumbered
18:18 and chances of survival never look slimmer.
18:21 But not on dad's watch.
18:22 They picked the wrong chick to prey on.
18:25 Hero penguin dad wouldn't let them take its baby away
18:28 without putting up a fight,
18:29 a fight that could cost him his life.
18:31 But he didn't care.
18:33 He bravely steps in and saves the baby
18:35 from the clutches of death.
18:37 He also manages to land some brutal flipper slaps
18:39 on the assailant.
18:41 Thanks to dad, the chick will live to swim another day.
18:45 Robin seagull strikes.
18:48 Finally, we've got something to crack you up.
18:50 This seagull has got to be the smoothest criminal
18:52 in the bird kingdom.
18:54 It simply walks into a store,
18:55 makes away with a pack of Doritos.
18:57 That's awesome, especially for a bird.
19:00 All right, well, that's it for today.
