00:00 4. Evergreen presents 10 of the world's most beautiful insects.
00:07 10. Orchid Mantis
00:13 Bound in the tropical rainforests around Southeast Asia, the orchid mantis goes by the name of
00:20 walking flower mantis as well. It is famous for its structure and brilliant colors, which
00:27 help it hide in plain sight. Its body is actually pink, but has a shade of white in it as well.
00:41 It is able to change its color from pink to brown according to its surroundings, which
00:48 increases its adaptability.
00:59 9. Hickory Horned Devil
01:03 Also known as the Royal Walnut Moth, the Hickory Horned Devil is a caterpillar which was first
01:11 described by Johann Christian Fabritius in 1793. They are native to the eastern United
01:21 States. They are large in size and seem pretty fierce by their appearance but are harmless
01:28 in actuality. They have a turquoise colored body with a prickled orange structure on their
01:35 head. Because of this horrifying appearance, they are avoided by many predators. Even cats
01:42 are reported to stay away from them while eating other caterpillars. They eat leaves
01:48 from trees and can live for about 5 weeks in total.
01:55 8. Jumping Stick
02:02 One of the most abundant insects in the world is the Phasmatodea, also known as ghost insects
02:10 and jumping stick insects. These small-sized creatures are found all around the world except
02:18 Antarctica and Patagonia due to extreme cold. Their dark brown colored skin provides them
02:28 with a suitable camouflage against predators' detection senses. They excrete toxin materials
02:38 from their spine as a secondary defense in case of any attack. The females of the species
02:47 are the longest living insects on the planet with an average lifespan of up to 3 years.
02:54 7. Calita Silk Moth Caterpillar
02:59 Shot to fame after their description by Theodore Drew in 1912, the Calita Silk Moth Caterpillar
03:07 is a bright colored creature living in the shrubs and canyons of Mexico, Arizona, and
03:13 Texas. These caterpillars are green colored with white dots all over their body. In addition
03:23 to that, they have tiny scale sets in black, blue, and orange colors over them as well
03:28 which make them even more beautiful and unique. On hatching, their wingspan reaches up to
03:37 11 inches and their appearance gets changed as well.
03:43 6. Thorn Bug
03:50 Member of the Membraceidae family, simply known as the thorn bug is one of the beautiful
03:54 insects on Earth, commonly found in Mexico and Florida. This beautiful little creature
04:04 is about half an inch in size and comes in different colors and structures. It has a
04:13 tall perpendicular horn with green, yellow, and red markings over its body, similar to
04:19 the shape of a thorn. This shape helps preventing its hunters from eating it. It lives in the
04:28 subtropical regions and is host to fruit trees and other ornamentals plants.
04:35 5. Devil's Flower Mantis
04:42 One of the biggest mantis species on the planet is the devil's flower mantis, also known
04:50 as the giant flower mantis. This large-sized mantis is about 40 inches long and is found
04:58 in African countries like Tanzania. It has a big shield on its back with white, red,
05:06 blue, and green markings all over its body. This creature only preys on flies and is careful
05:12 in keeping its population in control. They are reported to eat other insects, but this
05:18 is detrimental to their own health.
05:22 4. Atlas Moth
05:28 Endemic to the forests of Asia, this large-sized saturnid moth was first described by Carl
05:34 Leinous in 1758. One of the largest of its family, the Atlas Moth has a small body as
05:42 compared to its wings. The underside of the wings is a little pale in color, whereas the
05:49 upper side has a reddish-brown color with white, purple, and pink line patterns all
05:53 over it. Despite having wings, they are not able to take long flights due to lack of energy
06:01 and have a very short lifespan of about two weeks as an amaga. As caterpillars, they feed
06:08 on leaves of citrus fruits, guava, and willow.
06:13 3. Lanternfly
06:18 Native to Vietnam, Pakistan, and India, this little plant hopper is one of the most beautiful
06:25 insects on the planet. It jumps as a primary way for its locomotion rather than flying.
06:37 It is about one inch long and was first described by Adam White in 1845. As the lanternfly takes
06:50 flight, its body produces a glowing material that makes it look red.
06:58 2. Giant katydid
07:06 Also known as katydids and bush crickets, these green-colored insects are endemic to
07:14 all the tropical regions around the world. They are reported to have more than 6,400
07:26 species and are one of the most diverse beings on the planet.
07:34 This cute little creature is nocturnal by nature and uses both mimicry and camouflage
07:41 to hide itself from its predators. They feed on plant and love eating leaves of oak and
07:50 hazel.
07:53 1. Membrasis Mexicana
08:01 The Membrasis Mexicana is the most beautiful insect in the world. As the name suggests,
08:07 it is endemic to Central American countries and is abundantly found in Mexico. It is distinguishable
08:14 from other insects because of its beautiful colors and striking form, which it uses as
08:18 its camouflage.
08:23 These are completely black in color, but with maturity, develop some yellow portion as well.
08:29 They feed on the sap of many plants and are considered as minor pests around the world.
