Good afternoon, it's Chris here with your top three stories today, Tuesday July the 25th.
00:04
Number one, tram lines clear up. This is what Hillsborough Park, Sheffield looks like today and what people think.
00:10
And number two, the Royal Oak deep car, historic Sheffield pub reopens again after refurb three years after closing down.
00:18
And number three, sadness, friendship and a one-kick debut. Ron Atkinson remembers Sheffield Wednesday legend Trevor Francis.
00:26
That's it from me, have a great day and we'll see you tomorrow.
00:28
Well, tram lines is over for another year and as you see behind me, the cleanup has started now.
00:34
Sheffield council said that mitigation for the high rainfall was put in every day during the festival.
00:44
And as a result of that, extra groundwork repairs are expected to be needed this year.
00:49
Basically because of the huge amount of rain.
00:53
Tram lines ground crew are visiting the site today to assess the overall picture.
00:58
And the council says that it may take a few days to understand what's needed to be done.
01:04
However, they say that what they call crossing paths are intended to be in place and open this week for residents.
01:14
So tram lines ground crew are starting carrying out ground works repairs, hopefully from July 13th.
01:24
That's what the council has said. And they've also said that tram lines will pay for any work.
01:31
What's your views on the cleanup element of tram lines?
01:36
What stands the cost of all the cleanup of all the park and putting the surf bike together and everything?
01:40
Does that all come out to the profits of tram lines? Does all the businesses benefit now? I'm not so sure.
01:46
I don't know. If somebody could answer those questions, I'd be quite happy.
01:51
Do you think the cleanup that's starting today after tram lines is worth it?
01:56
Of course it is. Money well spent. Great for the economy, this festival.
02:01
We were all locked up with Covid not long ago. Thank God we're all out there enjoying it.
02:05
A bit of rain. My daughter came down here, she's 18, 19 just gone, and a fantastic writer passed.
02:11
She said to me, she said, "I'm covered in mud and in bed this morning till late." But what a memory she's got.
02:17
And it was great to see Wetherspoons this morning. They were cleaning up, cleaning all the stools and everything.
02:22
They were all smiling. They've all had a great time. I think it's fantastic.
02:25
And stop complaining about a bit of mud, it'll get better.
02:28
Yeah, I think it is. I mean, I think this year's obviously a special year with rain, but generally speaking, yeah, it's not an issue.
02:36
You think it's a good thing for the city? Yeah, definitely.
02:39
Do you think tram lines is worth it with the cleanup that we've got today, even though it's very popular?
02:43
Not for this weekend, especially with the weather. It's very, very bad for just the beginning of the school holidays.
02:51
Children wanting to go in the park. It's just going to be a big mess.
02:55
Do you think it's been badly timed then from that perspective?
02:58
It has this year, yes, very much.
