00:00 Members of the United Opposition India had marched out of the Rajya Sabha on Monday and
00:12 have been sitting near the Gandhi statue in the Parliament complex overnight.
00:16 The opposition's goal for the monsoon session is to keep focus on the Manipur issue.
00:21 The move came after MP Sanjay Singh was suspended for the rest of the session and they decided
00:25 to hold a relay protest throughout the night till 10.45 am on Tuesday morning.
00:31 The protesting MPs could be seen holding 'Save Manipur' placards with one of the main demands
00:35 being that PM Modi addresses the House regarding the Manipur issue before any other discussion
00:41 on the issue.
00:42 The PM broke his silence only on July 20, the first day of the session and the day after
00:47 a video emerged from the north-eastern state of two women being paraded naked and molested
00:51 by a mob.
00:52 While PM Modi spoke about the incident outside the Parliament, the opposition wants a statement
00:57 and discussion inside.
00:58 Our PM Sanjay Singh, who is a part of the overnight protest, said, "We are sitting
01:02 here since yesterday.
01:04 Our only demand is that PM Modi should speak on the Manipur issue.
01:07 We will keep protesting here and I am still requesting PM Modi to come to the Parliament
01:11 and talk on Manipur."
01:14 "We were sitting here all night and all day in front of the Gandhi plaque.
01:22 Our only demand from the Indian Prime Minister is that he should answer on the Manipur issue.
01:29 If violence has been going on in a state like ours, which is a border state, for the past
01:39 90 days, then how can the PM remain silent?
01:44 The home of the Central Minister of the country was burnt, the home of the State's female
01:49 minister was burnt, small children are being killed, elderly are being killed, young people
01:54 are being killed, gang rapes are being committed against women.
01:57 And the most shameful picture that has come out is that two women are being paraded naked.
02:05 One of them is a woman whose husband has taken part in the Kargil war.
02:12 Now imagine, the retired commander of the army is saying that he took part in the Kargil
02:19 war and protected the country, but could not protect his wife.
02:25 This is a statement that is humiliating to the 140 crore Indians.
02:33 And if we all have a little compassion, then today we need to stand with the warriors
02:39 of Kargil.
02:40 Today we need to stand with the women of Manipur.
02:43 And that is why we will continue our protest, our movement in front of the Bapu statue.
02:49 And I am still requesting the Indian Prime Minister to come and tell the Sadan how you
02:59 will bring peace there.
03:01 There is a double-engine government there.
03:04 There is BJP in the state, there is BJP in the country.
03:08 And your Chief Minister himself is saying that there have been hundreds of such incidents.
03:14 I mean, they are not even ashamed that the Chief Minister himself is admitting that
03:19 there have been hundreds of such incidents there.
03:22 So who should be held accountable for this?
03:25 The Chief Minister should come to Sadan and answer.
03:31 The whole country is looking at him.
03:34 If a cheetah comes, he has a lot of time to take pictures.
03:38 He has time to show the flag of the railway.
03:42 He has time to travel the world.
03:45 And a part of the country is burning.
03:48 Gang rape is happening with women there.
03:51 And you are not going to talk about Manipur?
03:55 So this is our question.
03:57 The demand was repeated by all the constituents of the India bloc who held the protest before
04:01 they started the proceedings.
04:03 Supriya Suli of NCP, A Raja of DMK, Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhiranjan Chaudhary,
04:07 Manoj Jha of RJD, Sanjay Singh of AAP, NK Premchandran of RSP, Amar Singh, God of Gogoi
04:12 Congress, Rajiv Ranjan Singh Lallan of JDU, among others, raised the slogan "Manipur
04:17 Wants Justice".
04:19 Opposition MPs will take turns to sit on dharna at the Gandhi statue for which a roster was
04:23 created for two-hour turns.
04:25 Members from the Congress and Trinamool Congress were present throughout the night.
04:28 Several opposition members of Parliament, MPs, have submitted notices for an adjournment
04:32 motion to address the situation in Manipur.
04:34 They are pushing for an unrestricted debate, allowing all parties to express their views
04:38 without any time constraints.
04:40 Since the beginning of the monsoon session on Thursday, the opposition has been protesting
04:44 on this matter.
04:45 Malik Arjun Gharg, the leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha, has expressed strong concerns
04:49 and criticised the government for what he perceives as insensitivity.
04:53 He emphasised their demand for the Prime Minister to personally address the House and provide
04:57 a statement.
04:58 Opposition party leaders are scheduled to meet at Congress President Malik Arjun Gharg's
05:02 chamber on Tuesday to chalk out the joint strategy for the day and beyond.
05:06 The opposition parties are also planning a visit of their chief ministers as part of
05:10 an all-party delegation to the troubled state to reach out to the people.
