00:45 Floyd Mayweather Jr. was born Floyd Joy Sinclair on February 24, 1977 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

01:01 His father, Floyd Sr. was a welterweight contender, and his uncle Jeff Mayweather is a former
01:07 IBO super featherweight champion.
01:14 Floyd Sr. introduced his son to the gym early on in life, holding his young boy in front
01:19 of speed bags whenever they visited the gym.
01:25 It wasn't long before Mayweather was throwing punches at anything that came in his line
01:30 of sight.
01:31 And at the tender age of seven, he was already fitted for his first pair of boxing gloves.
01:40 In his early years, Floyd already showed incredible speed of his hands and feet, making him a
01:46 competitor for world champion even in his formative time as a fighter.
01:55 Although life at home was very difficult, both of his parents struggled with substance
01:59 abuse and Floyd Sr. had many run-ins with the law as well.
02:07 But Floyd kept fighting and defined his defensive style of fighting, for which he was nicknamed
02:13 "Pretty Boy", since nobody could land a punch and mark his face.
02:21 He finished 84-6 as an amateur fighter and turned professional in 1996.
02:28 With his father at his side as manager, Mayweather began winning every single fight he took on.
