00:00 China has sent nearly 40 warplanes towards Taiwan just days before the island plans to
00:11 hold military exercises to practice defending itself from a potential invasion.
00:17 Taiwan is set to conduct annual military exercises next week, including combat readiness drills
00:21 and to prepare its civilians for evacuations in the case of a possible air raid.
00:25 The evacuation exercise has drawn attention because it represents a significant departure
00:30 from previous years.
00:31 While normally people are just asked to go indoors for 30 minutes while the air raids
00:35 silence sound, this week police will escort anyone out on the street at the time of the
00:39 drill to their nearest warm shelter.
00:41 The drills are also covering a much greater sample of the population than previously covering
00:45 districts, that account for a combined 3 million of Taiwan's 23 million people.
00:55 In the latest development in the Israel-Palestine conflict, reports said that Israeli forces
00:59 shot dead a Palestinian in the occupied West Bank.
01:02 The Israeli army described it as a car-ramming attempt near Nablus.
01:06 The teen is identified as 18-year-old Fawzi Mukhalifa.
01:09 The Palestinian Health Ministry said that the teen was killed by the occupation bullets
01:13 in the town of Sebastia late on Friday.
01:15 Reports said that he was the second Palestinian to be killed by Israeli forces in the West
01:19 Bank within hours.
01:20 The army said that the troops had responded to a car-ramming attempt in the northern West
01:24 Bank town by firing towards the suspect who were in the vehicle.
01:28 The army said that the driver was neutralised.
01:33 American President Joe Biden has chosen Admiral Lisa Franchetti to lead the US Navy.
01:38 The news of her appointment was given out by a senior administration official on Friday.
01:42 Lisa Franchetti would be the first woman to head the US Navy and the first to be a member
01:46 of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
01:47 She would be the second woman to head a branch of the US military after Coast Guard Chief
01:51 Admiral Linda Fagan, who was also nominated by Biden last year.
01:55 Joe Biden stated that throughout her career, Admiral Franchetti has demonstrated extensive
01:59 expertise in both the operational and policy arenas.
02:02 Franchetti currently serves as Vice Chief of Operations for the Navy.
02:10 South Korea has warned North Korea that any nuclear attack from the latter side would
02:15 mean an end of Kim Jong-un-led regime.
02:18 This comes after Pyongyang threatened nuclear retaliation over growing US military deployments
02:23 on the peninsula.
02:24 Pyongyang had said that the deployment of a US nuclear-capable submarine and other strategic
02:28 assets could meet the conditions for its use of nuclear arms.
02:32 Relations between the two Koreas are at one of their lowest points ever, with the North
02:37 ramping up weapons testing as Seoul and Washington boost military cooperation.
