Thakur Roshan Singh: A Fearless Revolutionary and Freedom Fighter

Thakur Roshan Singh was born on 22 January 1892 in Abada village of Shahjahanpur district in Uttar Pradesh. He belonged to a Rajput family that was proud of their identity and heritage. He was a good wrestler and sharpshooter, and had a passion for serving the nation.

He joined the Non-Cooperation Movement in 1920-21 and was arrested and tortured by the British for leading a protest march in Bareilly. He vowed to take revenge for the injustice and joined the Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA) in 1924. He met Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqulla Khan, Rajendra Nath Lahiri and other revolutionaries who inspired him to take up arms against the oppressors.

He was involved in the Bamrauli dacoity in 1924, where he killed a village wrestler who tried to stop him. He was not part of the Kakori train robbery in 1925, but he was arrested and falsely implicated in the case by the British. He tried to prove his innocence, but the judge ignored his pleas and sentenced him to death along with his comrades.

He faced his execution with courage and dignity on 19 December 1927 at Allahabad Jail. He wrote a letter to his friend before his death, saying "You don't get angry for me, my death is not worth regret, but it will be worth happiness". He sacrificed his life for the cause of freedom and became a martyr for the nation.

His family faced many hardships after his death, but they never gave up their pride and honour. His village still remembers him with respect and gratitude, and has donated land for building colleges in his name. He is an example of patriotism, bravery and sacrifice that we should all learn from and follow.

Let us pay tribute to this unsung hero of our freedom struggle and honour his legacy. Jai Hind! ‍♂️
