00:00 There's nothing but love there for me in all areas.
00:02 - Jamie Lynn Spears is opening up
00:04 about her current relationship with her sister,
00:07 Britney Spears.
00:08 Following long time ups and downs,
00:10 including a public feud amid the Free Britney movement,
00:13 the 32-year-old actress opened up to Variety
00:16 in a new interview about how she and her sister
00:19 are doing now.
00:20 - Your sister now has said that she visited you on a set.
00:23 Where are you now with your sister?
00:25 - I mean, I have nothing but absolute love
00:28 for every single one of my family members.
00:30 And I think if I learned anything from last year,
00:33 being so open and being so personal,
00:35 and feeling like I had to defend myself at times,
00:39 that I do want to just focus on maybe,
00:44 you know, what it is that I've done and said
00:50 is already out there.
00:51 I don't feel like there's anything else that I need to say
00:53 in any personal aspects.
00:54 I just have to leave it where it is
00:57 because those conversations are meant to be personal.
01:00 And all I can focus on now is really what I'm doing
01:05 with my girls, my husband,
01:08 and obviously the work that I'm doing now.
01:12 But I just, I think there's nothing but love there for me,
01:15 in all areas.
01:16 - Jamie Lynn went on to share how difficult
01:18 the past year has been when it comes to her older sister,
01:21 shedding tears over how she dealt with it
01:23 around her two daughters,
01:24 15-year-old Maddie and five-year-old Ivy.
01:27 - How do you keep that head on your shoulders like that?
01:30 'Cause like you said, the last year was tough.
01:33 I don't even want to say like, I could only imagine.
01:35 - It makes me sad.
01:36 - 'Cause I can't imagine it.
01:38 You know, I'm not, that's not my world.
01:40 - Yeah, it was, I don't want my daughter to feel that way.
01:44 So I have to say, absolutely not.
01:47 Will I allow my children, especially my oldest daughter,
01:52 who was very affected by all of it,
01:54 I will not back down.
01:56 I will not allow her to feel this way in her life.
01:59 So it's not a strength for me,
02:00 it's a strength out of the love for my children.
02:02 And wanting to make sure that I do not give way
02:07 to anything but what I know to be authentic and true,
02:12 even if it's hard on those days.
02:15 I can just remember, like, it just was, it was hard.
02:20 But I feel like at the end of the day,
02:23 look where I am now, you know?
02:25 And that's, it just makes me sad when I think about my kids.
02:27 Like, I don't ever want them to feel the pain
02:29 or the scrutiny that is not necessary
02:32 and it's not theirs to carry.
02:33 So I'll carry it, that's fine.
02:35 - How do you explain it to your kids?
02:39 - I explain it, well, my five-year-old doesn't care.
02:41 - She's five.
02:44 - And my 14-year-old, I think that every young girl
02:47 and every young person in this world on some level
02:49 deals with the way social media is.
02:52 I mean, like, we all on some level are dealing
02:54 with a public identity of who we are.
02:58 And I think you gotta protect that.
03:01 - How do you protect it with your daughter?
03:03 - Well, she doesn't have any social media.
03:05 But she does play sports.
03:07 Like, I have a social media page
03:08 where I'll post her softball videos and stuff like that.
03:11 But I think it's so important that I guard her
03:13 creating her identity without any outside noise.
03:15 And explaining to her that, you know, we do,
03:18 we are in a unique situation where people are fascinated
03:21 by the family that I grew up in.
03:23 But you don't have to do that.
03:26 You can be who you are exactly who you wanna be
03:29 without the outside noise.
03:30 And I promise you, you'll thank me for it one day.
03:32 And I just, I think that that's the only way
03:36 I know how to do it.
03:37 Because I know the pain I've felt.
03:38 And even though she might be mad at me
03:40 because I won't let her have anything.
03:42 But I know that that's, that I'm protecting her.
03:45 It's like the necessary evil.
03:46 You just have to do it if I'm going to give her the chance
03:51 to create her own independent thoughts
03:54 of who she should be and what feels right to her,
03:56 not what someone says or she saw.
03:58 - The Sweet Magnolias actress then explained
04:00 what she says to her girls if people around them
04:03 bring up their famous aunt.
04:05 - What do you say to her when she comes home and says,
04:07 "Some kid at school told me
04:08 "that my aunt is Britney Spears."
04:10 - I say, "Wow, you should be so proud.
04:13 "Like, look at what your family's done and accomplished.
04:15 "We came from a small town and now everybody's fascinated
04:18 "by the good end, especially the bad.
04:21 "But wow, look at what an example
04:22 "of a strong female you have."
04:24 And I admire it and I know that that's all I say.
04:29 It's like, that is noise.
04:30 Like, you have something to be proud of
04:32 and you should have pride in that.
04:35 And kids are kids, so I'm sure there's a lot meaner things
04:39 that they're doing to each other in high school.
04:42 - Jamie Lynn shared with the mag
04:43 that she always wanted to be in front of the camera
04:46 and clarified whether that motivation
04:48 came from seeing Britney on TV
04:50 before revealing if she could ever see herself up on stage
04:53 alongside her big sis.
04:56 - I just feel like I don't ever remember a time
04:57 where I didn't wanna do it.
04:59 And I'm sure seeing someone, everyone has an idol
05:02 and mine just happened to be kin to me.
05:04 So I just feel like, of course,
05:06 you're gonna be inspired by what you're around.
05:07 But I don't remember ever thinking about doing anything else.
05:11 - Could you imagine you and Britney
05:12 on stage performing together again?
05:14 - I mean, I don't know.
05:16 I mean, I think right now I'm really just focused on me
05:18 and what I'm doing and I feel like I've worked very hard
05:23 to be able to be a part of shows like "Sleep Magnolias"
05:28 and the whole cast and a real ensemble cast.
05:30 And then fighting hard to bring back a character
05:33 from my childhood, that is all I can think about right now
05:37 because my dreams are coming true again.
05:41 - Again. - Again.
05:41 - Again, yeah. - Like who gets to say that?
05:43 - Jamie Lynn has reprised her famous role
05:45 as Zoe Brooks from Nickelodeon's hit mid 2000 series,
05:49 "Zoe 101" in a new movie, "Zoe 102"
05:53 which is set to hit Paramount Plus on July 27th.
05:56 Access Hollywood reunited with the entire "Zoe 101" cast
06:00 back in 2020.
06:01 And at the time they shared their feelings on a reboot.
06:04 - We got the reunion, okay, we got it.
06:07 But now what about a reboot, a revival, a spinoff?
06:11 On the count of three, who would be down?
06:14 Who would be down?
06:15 One, two, three.
06:16 - I think we're all down.
06:19 - How awkward would it be if one of us
06:20 just didn't raise our hand?
06:22 - I was really hoping that would happen.
06:24 - Today has not been fun, so I'm gonna sit this one out.
06:27 No, the ultimate goal is to be able to have the reboot.
06:31 I think especially after this reunion,
06:33 the chemistry was still there, the vibes were all still good.
06:36 So I think that, I hate that I just said that,
06:38 but anyways, the vibes were good.
06:41 - I think that these characters were such a big part
06:46 of people's childhood and our fan base
06:49 is so connected to them that it's important for us
06:52 to make sure that we tell the story of where they are now
06:55 and connect to our fans again about where life is
06:58 and where our characters are.
07:00 And we have to do that justice.
07:01 So finding the right home and telling the right story
07:04 is equally as important as it happening.
07:07 So I think that takes a little bit of time
07:08 and obviously an added bonus time
07:10 with the pandemic and everything our world's going through
07:13 right now.
07:14 (upbeat music)
07:16 (upbeat music)
07:20 (upbeat music)
07:22 (upbeat music)
07:25 (upbeat music)
