00:00 Hello, my name is Greg Wright and I'm the Deputy Business Editor of the Yorkshire Post
00:05 and here are your business headlines for this morning.
00:09 Leeds-based Asda has announced price cuts for more than 200 own-label products as part
00:14 of its ongoing support to help families during the cost-of-living crisis.
00:19 The 226 products, which have been reduced in price by an average of 9%, include a host
00:24 of fresh fruit and vegetables, frozen meat and fish products, cupboard staples and ready
00:28 meals.
00:29 The initiative, according to Asda, is part of its ongoing investment to save customers
00:33 money in the current climate.
00:35 It comes as the latest Asda income tracker shows that 40% of all UK households had negative
00:41 disposable income last month, which means their take-home pay was not enough to cover
00:45 their bills.
00:47 Last month, Asda launched a summer price-lock campaign to freeze the price on 500 branded
00:51 and own-label products until the end of August.
00:54 And the supermarket has also extended its Kids Eat for £1 café meal offer for the
00:59 rest of this year.
01:00 So a sign there that Asda is continuing to take action to help customers who are facing
01:05 the cost-of-living crisis.
01:06 Many households are feeling the squeeze at the moment and Asda has today announced price
01:11 cuts for more than 200 own-label products, which come into effect from the 21st of July.
01:18 My name's Greg Wright and I'm the Deputy Business Editor of the Yorkshire Post.
