A persistent heat dome over western states has led to extreme heat advisories affecting approximately a quarter of the U.S. population, causing intense heat in some areas and generating heavy rainfall in the Northeast, with this pattern forecasted to persist for an extended period. Heavy rains and flash flooding in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, caused the deaths of at least five people, with vehicles swept away and significant devastation. Governor Kathy Hochul urged New York residents to avoid traveling due to ongoing rain and flash flood risks. Death Valley, California, reached an official temperature of 128°F, while the temperature display sign outside the Furnace Creek Visitors Center showed 133°F. Tourists gathered around the temperature display sign in hopes of witnessing a historic moment, celebrating as the reading ticked up to 133°F. Phoenix, Arizona, marked its 17th consecutive day with temperatures over 110°F, reaching a high of 115°F. Widespread record-breaking high temperatures are expected across the Southwest, western Gulf Coast, and southern Florida, while the Pacific Northwest faces temperatures between 100°F and 110°F.
