2023 FIFA WWC | Super Falcons Deny Allegation Of Boycotting Opening Game Against Canada Over Match Bonuses
-
The Super Falcons have dispelled rumours of planning to stage a strike and boycott their opening game of the 2023 Women’s World Cup after the General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation Dr. Mohammed Sanusi allegedly told them their match bonuses for the competition had been canceled by the federation.

According to the report, Sanusi had announced that the players would no longer be given 30 percent of the $1,560,000 FIFA grant to all member associations for the group stage of the competition

“The players were stunned by Sanusi’s announcement and are ready to make the world know what they’ve been enduring”, says the report.

Reacting to the allegation, the Super Falcons’ captain, Onome Ebi has denied the report making the rounds that the Super Falcons players are planning to boycott this year’s FIFA women’s World Cup over bonus issues.

She said, “Honestly I have no idea where it came from we’ve never had such a conversation among ourselves so I don’t know where that came from we are only preparing for the World Cup.”

On how training has been since the team arrived at camp, Ebi described it as intense.

“Saturday’s morning training was intense, motivating the players to be in good shape and in good spirit so we are ready to go. The training can speak for itself because we know this is what we bargained for, very intensive training.”
