Meta has released its new messaging app called Threads, positioning it as Instagram's "text-based conversation app." The app is designed to capture users who have migrated from Twitter due to the unpredictable behavior of Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk. Threads share a visual aesthetic with Twitter and allow users to post short messages that can be liked, shared, and commented on, and users can engage in public discussions like Twitter. The app garnered five million sign-ups within its first four hours. Threads allow posts of up to 500 characters and support the sharing of links, photos, and videos up to five minutes long. Meta plans to integrate decentralized technology, specifically ActivityPub, into Threads to enable users to control and manage their data across multiple apps.
