Glasgow headlines 26 June: Homelessness increases in Glasgow
  • 10 months ago
Shelter Scotland’s emergency housing report has indicated that homelessness is on the rise in Glasgow.

The council is experiencing an increase in the number of applicants to their homelessness services compared to last year and the charity is calling for more social homes to prevent people getting stuck in the system.

Next, hundreds of people marched through the city on Saturday 24 July demanding action over the impact of cancelling ferries in South Uist.

The island community have said the experience was worse than the pandemic in connecting with family and businesses on the mainland.

Campaigners argued the poor service has made it difficult to earn a living and have a thriving community.

And in other news, a popular Chinese takeaway in Dennistoun has announced its closure after seven years of trading.

Little Buddha shared on Facebook that they had ‘tried everything’ but rising costs and a constant shortage of ingredients made it increasingly difficult to sustain the business.

Their last day of trading will be Saturday 1 July.
