Donald Trump Faces Federal Charges

In a groundbreaking development, former U.S. President Donald Trump has become the first president, past or present, to be indicted on federal criminal charges. Trump himself announced the news on his Truth Social platform and was later confirmed by NBC News. Trump, considered the front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination in the upcoming election, is scheduled to appear in a federal courthouse in Miami on Tuesday. Last year, federal agents raided his Mar-a-Lago resort in South Florida and seized classified documents allegedly being retained there. Trump is still under scrutiny in two other criminal probes. One is led by Special Counsel Smith, investigating the January 6, 2021, pro-Trump riot at the U.S. Capitol. The other is an inquiry in Georgia examining whether Trump sought to interfere with the presidential election in that state.
