Hawaii's Kīlauea volcano is currently erupting, according to information posted by the US Geological Survey. The USGS Hawaiin Observatory elevated the volcano's alert level from WATCH to WARNING and its aviation colour code ORANGE to RED. The eruption began at 4.44am on Wednesday June 7 and looks set to continue. According to the USGS, the eruption appears to be confined to the summit, however there are still the risk of volcanic smog and other "significant hazards" that could harm local residents.
