The Defence Minister Richard Marles is hopeful Australia can upgrade a defence co-operation deal with Indonesia before the country elects a new president next year. Visiting Jakarta, the minister has told the Indonesians Australia's plan to obtain nuclear-propelled submarines shouldn't be an impediment for closer ties.
