Glasgow headlines 30 May: Car repair firm launches legal bid to hault LEZ

A motor trade repair company operating in Townhead has launched a legal bid to halt Glasgow’s Low Emission Zone just days before it’s set to launch.

Patrons Accident Repair Centre is arguing the zone will push them and others out of the area as they won’t be able to accept non-compliant vehicles, which currently makes up a third of its business.

Glasgow City Council said it is surprised by the timing of the legal challenge.

Next up, a Glasgow couple has won £300,000 from the National Lottery Fund after buying a £3 scratch card at Tesco.

George and Elizabeth Galloway said they plan to pay off their mortgage, extend their home, and treat their family to a holiday with the winnings.

George, who works as a truck driver, said he was thrilled he’ll no longer have to do overtime.

And finally, the West End’s University Cafe is set to feature in an episode of British Food with Rick Stein.

The world renowned chef made visited Byres Road during a trip across Scotland, afterwords saying the cafe was “special”.
