00:00 Hi everyone, welcome back to my channel. This week's video is a back to school makeup tutorial.
00:05 Yes, it's that time of year, September is literally around the corner, so it's back to school,
00:12 college, uni for a lot of you out there. Kind of makes me sad because I don't have that anymore.
00:18 I just graduated uni so this is the first year where I don't have to go back to anything in
00:25 September, which is really weird. But this is the makeup look that I created. It's not nothing
00:34 revolutionary, it's not nothing extravagant, it is really simple to do, but I just thought it was
00:40 really school, college, uni appropriate. I created this look with my school experience in mind because
00:49 I wasn't allowed to wear makeup to school. I did and quite a lot of other people did as well. You
00:55 did get away with it as long as it was quite natural, quite simple, it didn't look like you
01:00 had a lot of makeup on. And in my school, if you wore too much makeup, you were sent home or you
01:06 were told to take it off. Also for this video, I wanted to give you my personal tips on how I used
01:14 to try and save time in the mornings. I like to stay in bed as long as possible. I hate getting up
01:21 so I didn't used to have a lot of time to do my makeup. So I did kind of pick up things that
01:26 worked for me. So I am going to share that with you through this video and I hope that it does
01:32 help you as well. If you want to see how I got this makeup look and my tips for saving time in
01:38 the mornings when doing your makeup, please keep watching. Now onto the tutorial. I've tried to use
01:44 the least amount of products possible because more products equals more time. I also have everything
01:51 laid out on my desk which I think is a really good tip for saving time. It's what I do. Spending that
01:57 little bit of time the night before just planning and setting everything out, it'll save you a lot
02:04 of time in the morning, trust me. Now I'm going to start with my eyebrows and when I was in school,
02:10 I did not do my eyebrows but now I have to do my eyebrows and I'm never happy with the way my
02:17 eyebrows turn out ever and I always try and fix them and everything goes wrong even more. So on
02:24 mornings where you need to be quick, eyebrows, they're not a very good idea but if you're like me and you
02:31 have to do them but you really do struggle with getting them symmetrical or if you struggle to
02:37 get the right shape that you want, I would recommend getting some brow stencils because
02:42 they just make everything a lot easier, a lot quicker. I'm going to go for the slim arch which
02:48 is the smallest arch. To fill in my brows today, I'm using my brow bar to go. So I'm just taking the little
02:56 brush that comes in this kit. I'm just using the wax to place the brow hairs where I want them.
03:03 Then also taking the brush from the kit, I'm taking the lighter powder and I'm just going to use that
03:10 at the beginning of my eyebrow and then just using the darker shade right at the tail but I'm going to
03:15 place my eyebrow stencil on first. Then I'm just going to do the exact same steps on the other side.
03:23 If you're going to take the time to do your eyebrows, I recommend setting it
03:29 with a brow set. I'm using the MAC Pro Longwear Waterproof Brow Set in Quiet Brunette.
03:39 We're not doing anything complicated on the eyes at all so I'm just going to go straight in and do
03:44 my face makeup and do my eyes after. I'm going to use a primer because I just recommend using a
03:50 primer anyway but especially on a long day like a school day. I'm using the Maybelline Baby Skin
03:57 Instant Fatigue Blur. Also, I'm not using any liquid foundation in this look so using this primer
04:06 kind of just evens out my skin tone a little bit. When I'm in a rush, I feel like foundation,
04:11 it's just an extra step. I don't really feel like using it and I didn't really use foundation in
04:18 school anyway. I do recommend using a long wearing concealer. You don't have to use this one because
04:26 this is pretty pricey. This is the MAC Pro Longwear and I'm using NC20 for my face and NW20 for under
04:35 my eyes. I just use one pump and it depends on what my skin's like on that particular day. I just
04:42 use one pump and see how far that takes me and if I need any more I just use a bit more. I'm gonna
04:47 put that on any spot that I have, any discoloration, and even skin tone. Then I'm taking a flat top
05:00 kabuki brush. I just think that this is the quickest way to blend out the concealer and it
05:07 doesn't move the product around too much so you don't lose the coverage or anything.
05:11 I just do this in patting motions.
05:16 By using a little bit more concealer than I would normally because that was a lot of
05:24 concealer that I put on my face. I feel like it just gives me enough coverage that I can get away
05:30 without using foundation and I don't have perfect skin whatsoever and it just cuts out a step that
05:38 I don't really feel like is needed all the time. Then I need to conceal under my eyes and I always
05:44 use concealer under my eyes. I've always struggled with dark circles even when I was in school,
05:49 even when I was young. Concealing my under eyes is a must for me. I'm also going to use this to
05:55 prime my eyelids as it can be used as an eyeshadow primer. It's not my favourite primer but it saves
06:03 time and it does the job of a primer and as we're not using like really colourful eyeshadows or
06:09 doing any kind of dramatic eye look, this primer is absolutely fine for what we're doing today.
06:16 I'm using a tapered kabuki brush to just blend all of this in.
06:20 Now you do need to set that concealer because it will move around if you don't. I'm using the
06:29 MAC Pro Powder in Emphasize. Any powder that is really finely milled, any kind of translucent
06:37 powder is going to do the job of setting your under eye concealer. I'm just going to dab that
06:42 under my eyes and then flick away any excess powder. I'm also going to use it to
06:48 set my eyelids otherwise that will crease as well. I'm also going to use this to set the concealer
06:58 in any of the places on my face where the concealer tends to move around. I'm just going to
07:03 set my chin, around my nose and in between my eyebrows and then I am going to set the rest of
07:10 my face because there was a lot of concealer on my face and I'm using the MAC Studio Fix Powder
07:17 in C2. Now this is a foundation powder so it is going to give you a bit more coverage than just a
07:26 setting powder. So if you feel like you do need a bit more coverage, using a foundation powder is a
07:33 lot quicker than using a liquid foundation because you're still going to have to set that liquid
07:38 foundation. So this kind of sets it and it's a foundation as well so it's kind of two steps in
07:44 one. If you don't feel like you need more coverage then just use a regular setting powder. If you
07:50 have dry skin and you don't want to use a foundation powder then maybe I would suggest using a BB cream
07:57 as your primer because then it's going to have a little bit more coverage than just a regular
08:01 primer. I'm just using a Real Techniques powder brush which is a huge brush. It really is a quick
08:08 method of applying this powder and I'm not using too much because if you do use too much it is
08:13 going to look cakey and that's not what we want. Now I'm going to bronze my skin and I always use
08:20 bronzer when I was in school. Bronzer is a must and I did use bronzer in school. I didn't contour,
08:26 I didn't know what contouring was, I didn't know we did contouring when I was in school
08:30 but contour if you want. I feel like if I was contouring in school I would definitely have
08:37 been told to take my makeup off. I'm just using the NARS Laguna bronzer. It's a quite a natural
08:43 finish. It's not completely matte, it's not shimmery, it's matte enough if you wanted to
08:48 contour with it and then I'm just going to lightly put that on my cheeks. I'm also going to take this
08:54 bronzer on my forehead. It's just going to look a lot more natural if you just even out that bronzer.
09:01 I only used to bronze my cheeks when I was in school. I must have looked really weird.
09:06 I'm also going to take that along the jawline and down the neck and then while we have the
09:11 bronzer out I'm using this as my eyeshadow. I always use my bronzer as my crease colour
09:17 if I'm rushing for time. It's just going to look quite natural as well because it's the same colour
09:25 as the bronzer on our face. I'm only running this through the crease and I'm using a Sigma E40 brush.
09:31 I'm not putting a lot in the crease just to kind of make it look like a natural shadow.
09:36 This is also going to save time because you don't have to get any eyeshadows out. It's just there in
09:42 your hand. You just have to pick up a different brush and just run it through your crease. I'm also
09:46 going to take this on the lower lash line. The reason why I like to do this is because I do have
09:51 quite dark circles and putting an eyeshadow on the lower lash line kind of distracts people and it
09:59 draws them up to your eyes and away from your dark circles. Running that with the same brush
10:04 just on the lower lash line. Then moving on to blush. I'm using MAC blush in Blush Baby which is
10:11 a sheer tone finish so it's going to look more natural. It's quite sheer, it's not very pigmented
10:17 and it's quite a natural colour as well. I would just go for a very natural blush, a very nude
10:23 blush. If you are going for quite a natural makeup so you don't really want bright blush on. I'm using
10:29 a Real Techniques blush brush on the apples of my cheeks and dragging it slightly back.
10:35 Because this blush isn't very pigmented you're not really going to go wrong. You're not going to
10:40 put it on and go "oh" and have a really big patch of blush on your cheek. We are highlighting
10:47 but if you don't feel comfortable with wearing highlighter to school then that's perfectly fine.
10:52 Don't highlight, don't feel like you need to highlight. I'm using MAC Soft and Gentle and
10:57 I'm using this on a Real Techniques setting brush. I'm only going to use a really tiny bit. We're
11:03 not going to go overboard, only very slightly on the tops of the cheekbones. I'm also going to tape
11:09 this on the tip of my nose. I just like the way this looks and I always do it. Only a really tiny
11:16 bit and then another kind of trick. It's not really a time-saving trick but it's kind of like a trick
11:23 that I do. I do have a bump on my nose so I don't like to highlight down my nose because it's going
11:31 to bring that bump out. But what I like to do is I like to highlight the point just before the bump
11:38 just to bring that part of my nose forward and kind of conceal the bump a little bit. And then
11:45 I'm literally just rubbing that in with my fingers. Using your fingers is just so much easier and so
11:50 much quicker in the morning. And I'm taking a little bit on the Cupid's bow. That is really
11:55 not necessary at all. And then all I'm going to do is I'm taking this on my finger and I'm literally
12:00 just using this as my eyeshadow. I'm just going to put that all over my lid with my finger. Just
12:06 so easy and it's not too intense. You can make it more intense if you want. You can use a brush and
12:11 spray your brush with Fix Plus. That'll get you really intense but this is just really natural
12:17 eyeshadow. Then I am going to take a pencil brush and I'm going to highlight under my brows.
12:23 This again is a completely unnecessary step. I'm just going to take a little bit under the brow.
12:29 Only a little bit. And I'm also going to take some on the inner corner just to make your eyes
12:36 look more awake because I was always tired in school. So this is a good trick. It just makes
12:41 you look more awake. And then I really don't recommend messing around with eyeliner on
12:46 school days. It just it's the one thing that's prone to go wrong so many times and it's just
12:53 difficult to fix. Now it's time for mascara. But whenever I do my mascara, nine times out of ten,
13:00 I will get mascara on my eyelid just here. And that's fine on a normal day because I'm taking
13:08 my time and I just let it dry and I just wipe it away with a cotton bud. But when you're in a rush,
13:14 you don't want to fix things. You just want everything to go smoothly. Whenever it used
13:19 to happen to me, I used to think, right, I need to go fix that when it's dry. But then because I was
13:24 in such a rush, I would forget and leave the house and then I would have mascara on my eyelid
13:30 and probably wouldn't notice until halfway through the day. So what I like to do to kind of get around
13:38 that but still having quite a natural eye look is I take a really dark matte eyeshadow and it can be
13:45 black, it can be dark grey, dark brown. I'm just taking the darkest colour from my Collection Eyes
13:51 Uncovered new palette, which is a very dark brown. Obviously a brown or a grey is going to look a lot
13:58 more natural than a black. Keep that in mind. And I'm taking that on a flat definer brush and all
14:03 I'm going to do is the smallest amount I'm going to put along my upper lash line. I'm not going to
14:09 take it all the way in. I'm only taking it to where my eyelashes stop. And it's not even going to look
14:15 that much different and it's not even going to be noticeable when you've got mascara on. But the
14:21 reason why I do this is because I know it's an extra step, but it does save me time in the end
14:27 because I have this dark shadow right here. If I get mascara on my eyelid right here where I always
14:33 do, it doesn't matter because you can't see it. The dark shadow and the mascara blends in, like
14:40 you don't need to worry about fixing if you've got mascara on your eyelid. And also I don't really
14:47 like my natural eyelashes. They're not very long, they're not very thick and doing this is a trick
14:54 to make them look a lot thicker and a lot darker. Then we need to apply mascara and I'm just going
14:58 to curl my eyelashes and apply my Maybelline Forces mascara. I did actually end up getting
15:10 mascara on my eyelid on this eye, but you can't tell. So that's why I do it. Now all that's left
15:17 is lips. Now I am going to line my lips, but that is just because I do have a really weak lip line
15:24 and my lips don't have a lot of natural colour in them. So if I don't do this step, I can sometimes
15:31 look really ill and it's not a good look. But don't do this step if you don't feel the need to.
15:37 But I'm only going to use a natural lip colour and I'm using my favourite lip pencil which is
15:42 MAC Subculture. And then I am going to use a lip gloss on top of that. I'm not using a lipstick,
15:53 I just think it looks a lot more natural wearing lip gloss than a lipstick. I'm using the Buxom
15:59 lip gloss in the shade Sandy. And this is a great lip gloss for this kind of makeup look because
16:06 it's not extremely pigmented. I wouldn't recommend this lip gloss if you don't like that really
16:12 tingling sensation because this does have that and it lasts the whole time the lip gloss is on.
16:18 Also if you're in a colder climate and you're wearing this lip gloss, it will make you so much
16:26 colder. I have experienced that first hand. It's weird. And this is the completed makeup. I hope
16:37 you enjoyed this video. Please give it a thumbs up if you did and please subscribe if you haven't
16:41 already and I'll see you in my next video. Bye!
