Pugh is in the midst of what might be the biggest year of her career, starring in two highly-anticipated movies: Oppenheimer and Dune: Part Two.

00:00 To me, movie stardom is respect to profession,

00:05 respect of other people.

00:08 People are drawn to people, stars,

00:11 when we see that it goes beyond just them being good in a role

00:14 or looking great on a carpet.

00:16 For me, whenever I'm working with people,

00:19 the first thing that I appreciate is how they talk to other people

00:22 and if they are respectful of the set,

00:25 of their castmates, of the crew,

00:28 that is a star to me.

00:31 That is why they shine and it's because there is no difference.

00:34 It's always a joy when you meet one because you're like,

00:37 "Oh, the hype is true and the hype is real,"

00:40 because you are real and you are true.

00:57 I've always loved having a voice

01:00 and I think I've always loved finding the voice in characters that I play.

01:03 You're thinking about moving but you're going to wait until the interest rates go down.

01:07 I remember a few years ago, everybody kept on asking me

01:09 why I keep on playing such pissed off, annoyed women

01:13 that have to have their way and change the storyline

01:16 so that she comes out on top.

01:18 I didn't realise that I was choosing those roles.

01:20 Through hell and high water, I will follow you.

01:22 I think I love someone standing up to a problem

01:24 and especially a woman standing up to a problem.

01:26 It doesn't mean it always ends out great for them in the end.

01:28 Most of the characters that I play end up being accidental villains

01:32 but I've always defended them and believed in them from the beginning.

01:36 When I was growing up, I was always so alarmed about the fact

01:41 that we would so easily build up all of these stars and starlets

01:45 and they would go on red carpets and we'd appreciate their glamour moments

01:48 and then the public would relish and the gossip sites would relish

01:53 when they saw them looking normal and looking hungover

01:57 or walking their dog down the street or looking after their kid

02:00 and just this weirdness of everybody loving that they looked a bit crap that day.

02:04 I hated how it was almost your fault that you looked like that

02:08 and I think when I started out, I wanted to be in control

02:11 of that I get people to see me, not someone's trying to dupe me

02:16 or trick me or how she looks like that at 10am after she partied at the BAFTAs.

02:22 Which happened last week.

02:24 And I think part of me being online and part of me trying to be as normal

02:30 as I can be when I am and not on carpets is to kind of have control over that.

02:35 There's no misunderstanding of what I look like in those settings

02:39 and I think actually it's quite freeing.

02:42 I've continued to grow with every single character that I play and I defend

02:46 and with that, it's meant that I've now had more and more of a voice

02:50 personally to other people as well and to my social media

02:53 which I'm never afraid of going to when I need to set things straight.

02:57 There are thousands of meetings, I'll find another one.

02:59 And with every role I think I'm probably learning a bit more about myself.

03:03 The further and further I go, it's just meaning that I'm more and more secure

03:07 and more and more confident in what it is that I am and who it is that I want to be.

03:11 But it's ever changing.
