00:00 General impact technologies such as artificial intelligence have a significant effect on the entire society
00:06 thanks to their potential applications, also in the medical diagnostics sector.
00:11 What is not evident for the single human doctor can become evident with the use of large amounts of data and artificial intelligence techniques.
00:19 This could mean enormous potential from the point of view of diagnostic precision,
00:25 therapeutic appropriateness and cost reduction in the health system.
00:31 Having large amounts of data at our disposal means making the diagnosis available, which remains up to the doctor,
00:40 the possibility of not reading, as is traditionally used, a limited number of cases,
00:48 which are those available to human reading, but a huge number of cases,
00:55 which therefore makes the appropriateness of diagnostic information much more effective.
01:01 Artificial intelligence is a powerful tool in the service of health and medical professions,
01:07 from diagnostics to surgery, and is destined to grow.
01:11 The future is going in this direction.
01:13 We therefore wonder what the medical professionals' skills will be in the future,
01:18 how the relationship with the patient will change, and whether robots will replace medical functions now used by humans.
01:25 From the diagnostic point of view, today there are softwares that are as precise as radiologists,
01:32 if not even more. From the operational point of view,
01:36 the future of robotics in the surgical field could be made by artificial intelligence,
01:43 with the surgeon who is in charge of the surgical act.
01:47 From the predictive medicine point of view,
01:49 being able to understand with artificial intelligence what genetic predispositions or future diseases may be,
01:57 could naturally allow us to prevent them.
02:00 The application field is huge, but it is not in a few years.
02:06 It is today and certainly tomorrow.
02:08 Increasing the skills of the surgeon means reassuring the surgeon himself
02:14 that artificial intelligence will never be able to replace a human figure.
02:19 Yes, perhaps.
02:22 I would say that the future must be made by a close collaboration between man and artificial intelligence.
02:29 If we are not able to completely govern it,
02:32 because the race is tens of billions of dollars every six months, every year, for investment,
02:38 at least we can collaborate to avoid being overrun and use it as best as possible.
