Police treating deadly Wellington blaze as arson

  • last year
New Zealand Police are treating yesterday's deadly hostel fire in Wellington as an act of arson. Fire and emergency authorities have now handed the scene of the loafers lodge fire to police. At least six people died in the blaze and up to 20 people are unaccounted for. Police have now entered the building to begin a scene examination, and possibly recover the bodies of others who died. More than 50 people made it out of the building alive. The fire is being treated as suspicious and police say they have a list of people to interview in their homicide inquiry.
