Biden Administration Plans New Rules to Bolster Airline Consumer Protections
  • last year
The US Transportation Department proposes new regulations requiring airlines to compensate passengers for significant flight delays or cancellations when the carriers are at fault. While many carriers voluntarily agreed to provide meals or hotels, they have resisted offering cash compensation for delays. The Biden administration has been pushing for stronger passenger protections and has objected to family seating fees, investigated carriers for failing to provide refunds, and proposed new consumer protections. No US carriers currently provide cash compensation for flight delays or cancellations under the carriers’ control.
