Millions Of Taxpayers To Receive Settlement Checks From Turbotax Overcharging
  • last year
TurboTax owner Intuit will pay out $141 million in a settlement to compensate about 4.4 million taxpayers who were charged for the tax preparation that should have been free. The settlement applies to those who filed tax returns for 2016, 2017, and 2018 and were eligible to use TurboTax's IRS free file program, but instead ended up in a paid program. The investigation found that Intuit paid for online search ads that confused some customers, sending those searching for the IRS free filing service toward TurboTax's paid service. The settlement covers taxpayers in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
