Tornadoes touch down in Los Angeles - damaging buildings, vehicles and trees

Two tornadoes swept through the Los Angeles suburbs of Compton and Carson bringing 75mph winds to the city.

Footage shows the overcast skies as debris swirls in the air and a tornado's eyes as it rotates above the neighbourhood.

The National Weather Service confirmed that the tornadoes along with its high-speed winds touched down on Thursday morning.

The tornadoes damaged several buildings, trees and vehicles.

The National Weather Service said in a statement: "Two tornadoes occurred this morning in the Carson/Compton area, just a few miles apart and within 10 to 15 minutes of each other.

"Updates information from previous tornado report from 2 WSW Compton.

"This was the first of two tornadoes in the los angeles area from this morning.

"Brief weak tornado occurred this morning based on photographic and video evidence in the Carson-Compton area.

"Concentrated short path of minor damage to a couple of buildings, vehicle damage from debris, and tree damage.

"Damage occurred near the intersection of Avalon blvd. and E. Walnut St.

"Video taken of swirling debris beneath updraft base of thunderstorm.

"Degree of damage suggests 75-mph EFO tornado."
