This colossal Alpine stage includes the Cima Coppi. The route travels up the Aosta Valley all the way to the regional capital, to the foot of the lengthy Colle del Gran San Bernardo climb (34 km at 5.5%), the Cima Coppi of the 2023 Giro. The roads are wide and well paved for almost all of the stage. The route then takes a lengthy descent (30 km) into Sembrancher, heads towards Verbier and takes a first‑ever climb up the Croix de Cœur (15 km at around 9%). Next comes a technical descent, the first part of which is narrow roadway, while the second part is wide and perfectly surfaced, with 6 well‑lit tunnels. The course then crosses the Rhône valley (the only perfectly flat section of the stage), up to the foot of the closing climb.
Final kilometres ♂
The closing climb (13 km at 7%) is steep in the first part, with several hairpins. The gradient eases out until the last kilometres, with a mild descent leading into the final stretch. The home straight is 300 m long, on 8 m wide tarmac, and uphill.

Tappone alpino con al suo interno la Cima Coppi. Si risale la Valle d’Aosta fino al capoluogo dove inizia la lunghissima ascesa al Colle del Gran San Bernardo (34 km al 5.5%), Cima Coppi del Giro 2023. Si corre su strade larghe e ben pavimentate per la quasi totalità della tappa. Dopo il Colle si affronta una lunga discesa fino a Sembrancher (30 km) dove si devia verso Verbier e si scala l’inedita Croix de Cœur (15 km al 9% circa). Segue una discesa impegnativa la cui prima parte è a carreggiata ristretta, mentre la seconda larga e in ottimo stato è caratterizzata da 6 gallerie illuminate. Si percorre quindi la valle del Rodano (unico tratto perfettamente piatto della tappa) fino ai piedi della salita finale.

Salita finale (13 km al 7%) su strada ripida nella prima parte con numerosi tornanti. Seconda parte meno pendente fino agli ultimi chilometri con una lieve discesa che immette nel tratto finale. Rettilineo finale di 300 m in salita su asfalto largo 8 m.
