00:00 In this video, we're going to be looking at 10 prey that can defeat predators, if it
00:06 really came down to it.
00:07 Hello everyone, welcome to Pet Spot.
00:16 What some prey lack in pure muscle, they make up for in athleticism and brilliance.
00:21 In fact, our prey at number one doesn't even have to break a sweat when it fights.
00:27 Its body automatically fights for it.
00:30 Amazing, right?
00:31 Keep watching to find out what animal this is.
00:35 But just before we jump into that, if you do go on to enjoy the video, please make sure

00:44 Let's get right into it.
00:47 Number 10.
00:48 Sea Lion.
00:50 Sea lions are large sea animals that are considerably powerful.
00:54 However, the power you attribute to the sea lion might not be so admirable when you realize
01:00 that the sea lion's natural predators are whales and sharks.
01:08 Sea lions get very aggressive and territorial whenever they enter their breeding season.
01:13 This means that they will not fail to fight or attack any threat to their territory or
01:18 family.
01:19 Sea lions are known to respond defensively once they notice the dorsal fin of a killer
01:24 whale, and some even stay unmoved and vigilant even when faced with pods of these sea creatures
01:29 out for the hunt.
01:31 There have been consistent discoveries of sea lions with scars from attacks from great
01:35 white sharks and short-finned mako sharks.
01:38 This shows that sea lions are powerful enough to escape and survive attacks from their predators.
01:44 It might not be clear the exact method sea lions use in fighting back such formidable
01:49 foe.
01:50 However, we do know that the sea lion has a pretty ferocious bite itself that would
01:55 humble most predators.
01:57 Sea lions against whales?
01:59 Wait till you see the small animal that could kill a lion without raising a finger in our
02:03 number one pick for the list.
02:06 Number 9.
02:07 Water Buffalo.
02:09 The water buffalo is a big animal.
02:12 They can grow up to 11 feet long and more than 5 feet tall.
02:16 As for weight, the buffalo weighs somewhere between 660 and 1900 pounds.
02:22 Included in this already monstrous size is a massive head and horns, a broad chest, and
02:28 sturdy legs.
02:29 Water buffaloes are extremely powerful.
02:31 However, they are usually faced with some equally or even more powerful predators, from
02:37 lions to hyenas to komodo dragons.
02:40 Like sea lions, buffaloes do not back down from a fight.
02:44 Now buffaloes are known to form circles or defensive lines separating their young, old,
02:49 or weak members from the predators.
02:58 If said predator does not back down, these guys are not afraid to square up and put their
03:03 lives on the line.
03:05 The powerful horns on the head of the buffalo can cause severe physical trauma to predators.
03:11 There is one piece of footage that shows a lion tossed into the air like a frisbee, thanks
03:16 to these powerful weapons.
03:18 Those rigid horns can tear open the skin of any predator with ease.
03:24 Number 8.
03:25 Zebra.
03:26 The zebra is one of the most dangerous prey to hunt in Africa.
03:30 Although they resemble the horse, they have very different temperaments altogether.
03:35 If you think horses are aggressive, the beautiful zebra is double the aggression and double
03:40 the danger.
03:41 Sorry, kids, they are not as cute and nice as they make them look in cartoons and movies.
03:47 Apart from going up against predators, it is a common thing to find zebras kicking each
03:52 other to death, and they will violently bite any human being that comes too close.
03:58 There are also several cases and records of zebras causing the death of lions.
04:03 Whether directly or indirectly, most of the cases were the result of a sharp kick to the
04:07 head that breaks the lion's jaw.
04:10 Without a functioning jaw, the lion cannot eat and will therefore die of starvation.
04:16 Speaking of fatal kicks, keep watching to find out the one prey that can decapitate
04:21 the king of the jungle with just one kick.
04:24 And no, it's not a kangaroo.
04:27 Number 7.
04:28 Wildebeests.
04:29 A wildebeest is like an antelope on steroids.
04:33 These very fast, powerful, and agile creatures are so large they can weigh as much as 600
04:39 pounds and stand as high as 4 to 5 feet tall.
04:44 While size alone doesn't deter most predators, wildebeests are no easy targets.
04:49 These guys are blessed with powerful legs and strong kicks that can stun predators and
04:54 leave injuries, some of which can be fatal.
04:57 If the predator attacks from the front, the wildebeest uses its very powerful horns to
05:02 thrust at and puncture the predator, potentially causing severe bleeding which can ultimately
05:07 lead to death.
05:09 Other times, it uses the same horns to throw the predator high up into the air, causing
05:13 it to crash land on the hard floor of the savanna, which in turn can cause fractures
05:18 and other life-threatening injuries.
05:27 Even while having all these weapons in its arsenal, perhaps the wildebeest's best defense
05:31 mechanism is teamwork.
05:34 Wildebeests often move in large herds, which makes it difficult for any predator to attack.
05:39 They also stay close to zebras and share warning calls with them.
05:43 And when these warning calls aren't effective, predators more often pick zebras as the easier
05:48 prey, leaving room for the wildebeests to escape.
05:53 6.
05:55 Giraffe These guys are mostly runners, but this does
05:59 not mean that they are completely defenseless and cannot find their way out of a sticky
06:03 situation.
06:04 A kick from just one of the long legs of a giraffe could put a lion in big trouble.
06:09 Giraffes use their powerful legs to kick out at predators to incapacitate them and get
06:14 away alive.
06:16 Giraffes can kick using both their fore and hind legs, and they can kick in any direction,
06:21 which makes this weapon all the more versatile.
06:24 The giraffe's kick is so dangerous that a single, well-targeted blow is capable of
06:30 decapitating a lion, killing it instantly.
06:34 If the lion is too close to the giraffe and unable to stretch out its legs to kick, trampling
06:39 upon the lion is also strong enough to break the lion's back, an injury that can be fatal.
06:46 Fun fact, some giraffes grow as tall as 20 feet and they can reach speeds of up to 60
06:52 kilometers per hour.
06:53 5.
06:54 Elephant
06:56 There is no surprise that these guys are on the list of powerful prey.
07:00 While they are typically peaceful, you do not want to meet them on a day when they are
07:04 sick, injured, or being harassed.
07:07 They become extremely aggressive in any of these conditions.
07:10 As mighty as lions might be, they never attack a herd of elephants, and they also try avoiding
07:16 adult elephants.
07:18 They pay more attention to the younglings and would always wait until they are isolated
07:22 from the herd.
07:24 Elephants are not just strong, but they are also very smart.
07:28 They have the biggest brains of any animal that walks the earth, and three times more
07:32 neurons than humans.
07:34 With their level of intelligence, huge tusks, and imposing size, they can keep themselves
07:40 protected from the attacks from predators.
07:42 And let's not even get started on their incredibly powerful trunk.
07:52 If you've always wondered why Simba never ate Pumbaa, the warthog, we just might have
07:56 an answer for you.
07:58 Keep watching to find out why lions cannot defeat the powerful warthog.
08:03 4.
08:04 Rhino
08:05 As dangerous as these beastly creatures can be, you would expect them to be troublemakers.
08:11 But quite the contrary, they generally prefer to keep to themselves.
08:15 Nonetheless, this peaceful, violence-avoiding attitude of the rhino completely evaporates
08:21 into thin air once an external force starts threatening them.
08:25 They will charge their large and tough bodies right into a fight with any animal, whether
08:30 big or small.
08:32 Thanks to the awe-striking size, very thick skin, and horns that could pierce through
08:37 anything, adult rhinos cannot be connected to any natural predators.
08:47 Baby rhinos, however, sometimes fall prey to big cats, hyenas, crocodiles, and African
08:53 wild dogs.
08:55 That being said, even the most adept hunters know not to mess with baby rhinos when the
09:00 elders of the herd are around.
09:02 It could get tragic for them very quickly.
09:07 3.
09:09 Warthog
09:10 They are stout, they are sturdy, and they are as smart as they get.
09:14 Warthogs are arguably one of the most durable and endurant prey species in Africa.
09:20 Although they are small, the warthog's legs are quite long in comparison to other pigs.
09:25 At the sight of a predator, they can run and dodge better than some of the NFL's best.
09:31 Yet they are also brave and fierce enough to stand and pick a fight too.
09:36 They have very sharp canine teeth that they weaponize against predators when necessary.
09:41 These aggressive animals also weaponize their sharp tusks and have been known to injure
09:46 predators whenever they get cornered.
09:49 Warthog hunting can be risky for all big cats, lions included, so much so that it could be
09:55 fatal.
09:56 2.
09:58 Slow Loris
09:59 The slow loris, as its name implies, is a very slow-moving creature, making it the perfect
10:05 prey for faster-moving creatures like big cats, reptiles, and even some birds of prey.
10:10 However, what this animal lacks in speed and athleticism, it makes up for in poison and
10:16 deception.
10:17 To prevent itself from being eaten alive by predators, the slow loris coats its entire
10:22 body in poison.
10:24 This poison is generated on the arms of the slow loris.
10:27 They then take this poison and rub it all over their body, including their teeth, in
10:32 case they have to fight back.
10:34 This poison is so strong that it can cause anaphylactic shock in most predators and even
10:39 kill them.
10:41 Talk about having tough skin.
10:44 1.
10:47 Porcupine
10:48 Of all the animals we have mentioned in this video, the porcupine is the least aggressive
10:53 animal.
10:54 In fact, it is not aggressive at all.
10:57 And that is the interesting thing about these guys.
11:00 As dangerous as they are, the only time you will find this small animal on the attack
11:05 is when it's on the defense.
11:07 They are hardly ever seen actively attacking.
11:10 Instead, their bodies do the attacking for themselves.
11:14 While the actual hair on the body of the porcupine is soft, they have sharp quills lining their
11:19 backs, sides, and tail.
11:22 Unlike popular beliefs, the porcupine cannot shoot these quills at a predator.
11:27 However, the quills leave the body of the porcupine once they get touched.
11:32 Most animals, after trying their luck against the porcupine, end up with sharp quills hanging
11:37 out of their snouts and/or bodies.
11:40 This can do a lot of damage to the face or jaw area of the animal, damage that can lead
11:45 to death.
