While the October 13 release date for the film is still quite a ways off, some plot details for Damsel have already been released. The upcoming Netflix fantasy, which is directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, will follow Elodie, a young woman who thinks she is destined to become a princess to a perfect prince. These dreams are shattered, however, when she is thrown into a dragon pit as a sacrifice. Brown's character attempts to survive long enough to be rescued by a brave hero but soon realizes that she will have to save herself. As with the Enola Holmes films, Brown serves as a producer on Damsel. The film is written by Dan Mazeau, who is also credited as a writer on 2012's Wrath of the Titans and the upcoming Fast X.
In addition to Brown as the lead character, Damsel also has an impressive supporting cast. After most recently appearing in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Angela Bassett will play Lady Bayford, Elodie's stepmother, in the film. Robin Wright, best known to many audiences for her performances in The Princess Bride, Forrest Gump, and Wonder Woman will also appear as Queen Isabelle. Damsel also features Ray Winstone in an unknown role, in addition to Nick Robinson, Shohreh Aghdashloo, and Brooke Carter.
