I Witnessed My Mom's Murder At 14 | MY EXTRAORDINARY FAMILY
  • last year
GEORGIA, 19, from the UK, witnessed the brutal murder of her mother at the hands of her step-father when she was just 14 years old. Georgia was 7 when her step-dad came into her life and, at first, everything seemed normal. However, behind closed doors, it turned out that her mum Cheryl was experiencing abuse and coercive control. Georgia told Truly: "I got on with him really well straight away. He was constantly doing whatever he could for us and love bombing us really. Soon enough a lot of it became for public view." When Georgia was 14, she and mum Cheryl left their family home after her step-dad's behaviour became threatening. It was at this point things took a dark turn. In January 2018, Georgia's step-father committed a heinous crime that changed her life forever. Georgia said: "I never thought this would be the last night I'd spend with my mum. The last thing I ever remember her saying to me was... 'Oh my God, he's here." Since the day that Georgia's step-dad was convicted of murder, she's made it her mission to campaign and help raise awareness of domestic violence and coercive control. Georgia added: "Even if it doesn't dramatically change someone's life, it might just get the cogs whirring. I really want to make my mum proud and keep her legacy going on."
