Dumb Phones Make a Comeback with Gen Zers

HMD Global, the maker of Nokia phones, continues to sell millions of mobile devices that resemble those from the early 2000s, including feature flip phones that have additional features such as GPS or hotspots. HMD Global sells tens of thousands of feature flip phones in the U.S. each month. Companies such as Punkt and Light design minimalist phones for users who want to spend less time on their phones and social media. Light Co-Founder Joe Hollier said that the company’s devices weren’t “anti-technology” but more about consciously choosing how and when to use which aspects of technology that add to my quality of life.” Analysts say that the market for dumb phones has “flatlined,” but there is a potential for a slight increase as a result of public health concerns.
