Donald Trump’s First Wife Was Under FBI Counterintelligence Investigation
  • last year
Bloomberg News obtained an FBI file containing numerous pages that revealed that Ivana Trump, the first wife of former President Donald Trump, was under FBI counterintelligence scrutiny after leaving communist Czechoslovakia and settling in the United States. In 1989, the FBI recommended opening an investigation into Ivana Trump based on data from a confidential informant. Interestingly, the FBI report noted that these allegations might have originated from the envy of her wealth and fame. Although the report contained minimal information about Donald Trump himself, the FBI discovered 900 pages of material on Ivana Trump.

The FBI agreed to release almost 200 pages this week, with the rest to be released next month. Ivana Trump was born in former Czechoslovakia under communist rule and later immigrated to Canada in the 1970s before beginning her modeling career, which brought her to New York in 1976. She met Donald Trump, and they were married in 1977, but their relationship ended in divorce in 1992. Ivana Trump played a critical part in helping Donald Trump build his real-estate empire, serving as vice president for interior design at the Trump Organization.
