Birmingham headlines 28 March: Child poverty reaches record levels

New figures have revealed that Birmingham has one of the highest levels of children living in poverty across the UK. 98,045 children in Birmingham were living in relative poverty in the year ending April 2022 - accounting for 38.6% of children in the region.

Dr David Nicholl, a Consultant neurologist and clinical lead at City Hospital, says that banning laughing gas is the "wrong approach". Nitrous oxide has become the most commonly used drug among 16 to 24-year-olds in England after cannabis. Dr Nicholl argues that the focus should be on educating young people on the dangers of the drug.

Michelin star judges have awarded a Solihull restaurant its first ever star. Grace & Savour situated in Hampton Manor opened last year and is the only restaurant in the West Midlands to win a Michelin star this year.
