Macron says King Charles visit to France delayed, condemns violent protesters

President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday it would be illogical to welcome King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla for a state visit next week amid raging protests related to the government's pension reform plans.

"Once that decision had been taken (about the protests), common sense and friendship lead us to suggest a delay," Macron said.

There were violent clashes across the country on Thursday evening on the fringes of otherwise peaceful protests that have for weeks gathered huge crowds against a rise in the pension age by two years to 64.
