On March 23, senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was held guilty and sentenced to two years in jail by a court in Surat, Gujarat. Rahul Gandhi was found guilty in a 2019 criminal defamation case for his remarks about PM Narendra Modi's surname. However, Gandhi was granted bail later. His sentence was suspended for 30 days to let him appeal. BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi had filed the case against Rahul Gandhi.
