The final match brought together two teams from La Liga from the city of Madrid, namely between Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid which was held at the Stadio da Luz, Lisboa, Portugal, which made it the fifth final to bring together two clubs from the same league and the first to bring together two clubs one city in the UEFA Champions League Final.[1][2] Real Madrid, who beat defending champions Bayern Munich in the semi-finals, won the final after extra time, claiming their tenth European Cup and adding to their record for most European titles.[3]

For the first time, teams that qualified for the group stage also qualified for the newly formed 2013–14 UEFA Youth League, a competition available to players aged 19 and under.
