Frenkie de Jong and Vinicius Jr. were involved in a feisty altercation as tempers flared during Barcelona's clash with Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey.

Madrid was hosting their El Clasico rivals in the first leg of their semi-final tie, with the pair separated in the La Liga title race by Barcelona's seven-point lead.

The battle between the sides more than spilled over in the first half though, as De Jong and Vinicius Jr clashed following a mazy run from the Dutch midfielder.

De Jong shrugged off a challenge from the timeless Luka Modric, before skipping past his midfield partner Toni Kroos and continuing to keep hold of the ball.

Determined to put an end to De Jong's run, Vinicius Jr tried to halt the Barcelona midfielder by putting an arm and leg ahead of his next move.

The Brazilian's block promoted De Jong to grapple his way around the Real Madrid star, only for Vinicius to react by grabbing him by the neck and falling to the floor.

The moment then ended with Vinicius having a headlock on the Manchester United target as the pair landed on the ground in a heap.

It saw referee Jose Munuera produce a yellow card for the Madrid attacker, much to the dismay of the 22-year-old.

The incident was being keenly watched by Man Utd fans on Twitter, with De Jong still linked with a possible move to Old Trafford to join former manager Erik ten Hag at the club.

However, his role in the tussle spilled opinion on whether or not the 25-year-old would be a success in the Premier League.

One post simply read 'FDJ got bullied he's not ready for the Premier league'. While another appreciated his willingness in the clash with Vinicius and said: 'need this Frenkie de Jong in my team'.

He wasn't the only one in support of De Jong, another posted: 'Frenkie de Jong is one of a kind, a player who would get into every midfield across all the best teams in Europe. There are no doubts that Ten Hag will approach for his services once again in the summer.'

However, perhaps the best observation on the incident came from a quick-witted poster that stated: 'What in the WWE'. Comparing their coming together to that of the likes of John Cena and Roman Reigns.

Barcelona holds a slender lead from the first leg to take back to the Nou Camp after an own goal from Eder Militao separated the two teams....
