سن1974ء میں حکومت پاکستان نے کراچی میں روٹی بنانے کے آٹومیٹک کارخانہ قائم کیا۔ ” روٹی گھر“ کے نام سے قائم ہونے والے اس کارخانے میں 6000روٹیاں فی گھنٹہ تیار ہوتی تھی۔ حکومت کے مطابق خودکارمشینوں پر تیارکردہ ان رو ٹیوں میں روایتی طریقے کے برعکس حفظان صحت کے اصولوں پر سختی سے عمل کیا جاتا تھا۔کراچی میں روٹی کی اس فیکٹری کی مخالفت کی گئی ناقدین کا کہنا تھا کہ اچھی روٹی پکانا ایک فن ہے جس کی مشینیں نقل نہیں کرسکتیں۔ ”پکی پکائی تازہ روٹی“ کے برانڈ سے کراچی کے علاوہ لاہور میں بھی فروخت ہونے والی اس کے آٹومیٹیک پلانٹس مغربی جرمنی کی ایک فرم نے پاکستانی ماہرین کے ساتھ مل کر ڈیزائن کیا۔ ’’پکی پکائی تازہ روٹی“ پولی تھین کی پیکنک میں فروخت ہوتی تھی اور ایک پیکٹ میں پانچ روٹیاں ہوتی تھی جس کی قیمت ایک روپیہ تھی یعنی بیس پیسہ فی روٹی۔ اْس وقت حکومت نے کراچی میں مزید تین پلانٹس قائم کرنے کا اعلان بھی کیا تاہم جلد ہی ’’پکی پکائی تازہ روٹی“ کا منصوبہ ختم کردیا گیااور اس کے وجہ یہ تھی کہ اسی سال حکومت نے خاندانی منصوبہ بندی پروگرام شروع کیا اور یہ افواہ پھیلادی گئی کہ’’پکی پکائی تازہ روٹی“ میں بانجھ پن کی گو لیوں کا سفوف شامل ہیں۔
