Kind-hearted siblings earn rare Blue Peter badge for playing music to dementia patients

Nine year old Joshua and his big sister Jasmine, 14, were thrilled to be awarded the special silver badge from their favourite TV show - as it recognises acts of kindness in the community.

The musical pair joined their dad, John Squires-Evans, in a 'pop-up' brass band, and played carols for dementia patients, and elderly people in their community in Hambleton.

Joshua, who has played the flugelhorn since he was three, said: "The people couldn't really remember their family members, but when we played they were singing along to the songs. It makes me feel warm inside because we're making people happy, and that's very special."

The two children both also play in the Children's Band of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain - with Joshua being one of the youngest ever to be accepted.
