North Korea says it tested ICBM in surprise drill

North Korea said on Sunday it tested an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) a day earlier, its third known test of a long-range weapon in less than a year.

According to the KCNA report, the missile flew 989 kilometers (614 mi) to an altitude of 5,768.5 kilometers (3,584 mi) for about 67 minutes.

Said the test was proof of Pyongyang's ability to "deliver a deadly nuclear counterattack on hostile forces" and "clear evidence of the definitive reliability of our powerful physical nuclear deterrent".
