Glasgow headlines 16 February: Nicola Sturgeon resigns as FM

Glasgow Southside’s MSP Nicola Sturgeon has announced she’s resigning from her role of First Minister.

After eight years in the role, the SNP leader said she knew in her head and heart that it was the right time to step down, but will remain in office until her successor is elected.

Next up, in a bid to meet a budget gap, council tax and parking charges in Glasgow are set to rise.

These are expected to increase by between five and ten percent to prevent deeper cuts to other services.

A nursery chain will be closing multiple of its facilities in Glasgow, giving some parents only two weeks notice.

Rising Stars childcare centres will cease operation on the thirty first of March.

A spokesperson said that they apologise for the inconvenience cause, but it is currently not viable to keep operating.
