Der Hollywood-Star Hedy Lamarr galt einst als weltweit schönste Frau und feierte als Filmschauspielerin besonders in den 1940er Jahren große internationale Erfolge. Ihr Dasein als Wissenschaftlerin und ihre Pionierarbeit im Bereich der Mobilfunktechnik war hingegen nie Teil öffentlicher Diskussion. Zu Unrecht als „ein weiteres schönes Gesicht unter vielen“ betitelt, hat Hedys eigentliches Erbe viel mehr Gewicht. Als österreichische Jüdin, die nach Amerika emigrierte, erfand sie ein störungsgesichertes Fernmeldesystem, das zur Niederlage des Dritten Reiches hätte beitragen können. Sie wollte ihr Patent der amerikanischen Marine übergeben, wurde aber abgewiesen - sie solle lieber Küsse gegen Kriegsanleihen verkaufen.
