In the deserted hills of an Indonesian island, a young widow is raped and robbed of her cattle. In defending herself, Marlina kills several of the attacking gang members and decapitates their leader. She then sets out on a journey to find justice, empowerment, revenge and redemption. But the road is long, especially when the ghost of her headless victim begins to haunt her.

Er verkündet der dort lebenden Marlina (Marshy Timothy), dass bald sechs seiner Freunde eintreffen werden, um ihr Geld und all ihr Vieh zu stehlen und - wenn Zeit bleibt - sie im Anschluss zu vergewaltigen. Zunächst einmal hätte er aber gerne Hühnersuppe zum Abendessen. Marlina macht sich auf den Weg in die Küche. Hühnersuppe wird es geben - und etwas besonders Scharfes zum Nachtisch!
